Looks like ring locating pin came out and ring turned and caught exhaust port

Thanks eli .. was trying to diagnose because it's a parts motor for me and don't want to use any bad parts on my good motor and have something like that happen

Welp , it do say "UP" at the bottom of the pit-ch-er .. :leaving:

So either the picture or piston is loaded wrong .
How do the other two look ?
Stand back a little so we can see all three at once ..
With it being dry ( no evidence of fuel wash ) it's hard to say if the locator pin came out ( as Eli suggests ) or if it detonated the piston down past the first ring.
There's a good thread started by Forby last week about degreeing the flywheel and how to check the timing on each cylinder. I know it's a little late now. But you'll want to gather up some of the tools mentioned and do it when you go back together.

Had a 135 Optimax do the same, head gasket blew, didnt know it had blown until the piston eroded and let go.

The slight rust marks on the top of the bore maybe a give away.

The little bit of rust marks are from the guy that I bought it from he let it sit out without all the plugs in it.. I bought it for parts for my motor. Only $550 for the whole motor
