I'm in the process of replacing the stock(older- style single-handle) Merc shifter with a shifter from Eddie marine. My shifter sits high on the gunnel and is bolted into a vinal insert. Anyone made a backign plate to replace the plastic Merc piece? Any suggestions about how to dress-up the mounting holes left by the Merc unit? Thanks.

P.S. thanks to those who responded to my most recent post on what I call the nose-cone caper. I made a classic mistake in drilling the wat er feed holes. My problem was dealt with quickly and saved me some real time, headaches and most importantly money.

Depending you can cover the holes with a nice looking plate or thinger and it just looks good. It may even serve a purpose.
There are alot of options for covering the holes, one of them should fit your patience and other compromisers.
Cover some glitzy thing or a sleeper like thing. One dresses up the other just covers up and doesn't draw to much attention to itself, like the vinyl insert.
fill & paint to match- or gell.
fill and sticker
fill and paint but camelflouge it so it looks like it's supposed to be there.
put something new in the area.

Always drive with your hand covering the holes.

Duct tape.
Duct tape depending on how it's used either results in that racer look, or that bum look.
