I'd say it's ok for the lawn-mower or old truck.
Wouldn't risk it in your outboard.

Thats what I do with it, or may be the chain saw.

Dump it in the truck. us1, I have nothing but Stihl saws and brush trimmers. I like my saws much better than that. Stihl is the ****!
Better to be safe than sorry, especially if it is a 80 or earlier engine with high ring pistons and tighter heads.:)

How about if you top it off with fresh gas and new oil?

I've never thought 3 or 4 mos. was too old. An oil co. engineer told me several years ago that gas is losing integrity at 6 mos and even with aftermarket stabilizer he didn't like it past 12, but if 4 mos is dangerous, I'm in trouble with both the cars and boats.

I encourage my customers to use fuel stabilizer year round for the vary reason that our gas quality may not be what it used to be. If they are un-sure about how old their gas is I always put fresh gas on top of it, but I sample their fuel first because if there are any telltale signs of water or alcohol accumulation it gets dumped for sure. I also encourage my oil injected customers to put between 1/2-1 ounce of oil in their gas just for a little safety cushion. My guess is most don't remember to do it...but at least it WILL be there on their first trip after leaving my shop.:D

Okay, John, I thought you had to use AV-GAS in that chainsaw of yours!

I have a friend that has a couple of old cars lying around that need to be driven (like you, Norris ;) ). He usually runs the lower grade of race gas in them. It has never gone bad on him. He also puts it in his moped and 4 wheeler. :)
