Can the 245hp Carb 2.5 be converted to EFI? If so, what are your thoughts on who can do this and general costs. I appreciate anyone opinion on this. Thank you.

Yes, you'll need a complete laser injection system and a fuel curve in the ECU to work with the porting. Look on the misc sale section on here for a fuel injection system and contact Dennis Hoffman to do the ECU. I have a 200 carb motor block that was cut to promax specs that we made into a fuel injected motor. Dennis did the ECU and I could be happier with the results, unless it had more HP. :smiletest:

high psi fuel pump.. fuel regulator....laser inj plenum.. ecu.....efi 7pedal intake (you can use your reeds)

hardest thing to track down is the intake...everything else is easily found

get injectors flowed before installing

a good fuel pump is the Bosch 044 (always good to have filter inline before fuel rail)

ONLY laser type efi…. not horn.

Thank you guys. Without porting or other methods, no increase in HP?

A performance mercury shop like Diamond Marine an option for merc updating? A cost I'm sure, but I'll need honest professional help as I am not knowledgeable under the cowling.

I don't know if I buy 20 hp. Easier start, but more headaches IMHO.

Not buying 20 either. Only difference between the 245 and 260 is carb vs a horn efi setup. And horn is gonna definitely make more hp than a laser. Rex told me a carb will run just as hard on big end as a laser, with the laser having a crisper idle and more responsive than the carb.

very few 220's would do any better than a good 200 carb motor in first years of laser efi.. had a coupla both back then.. certainly not any hp difference that I could see.. tha first ecu's were "field tested" by consumers I feel like.. there was one ecu for tha laser in '87 that was not a "public" option that was pretty decent.. don't remember tha number but it had a lean/fat dial on tha back and was used ona laser injected bridge port from hi perf.....

Carbs are a little harder to start, but I prefer them due to all of the injector/ecu failures that can quickly junk a motor.

Plenum in horn, spreads airflow better to outer reeds in a 7 petal setup than xri

Carb bleed nipples need to be welded shut on 245 block
