Low water pickup

I installed a Bob's nose cone on my lower unit over the winteritme. Today I fired the motor for the first time and found I had no water pressure. The pump is new. I installed the cone as prescribed and drilled and tapped the necessary hole for the water feed tube. I'm ondering if someone call tell me if the water pump base has to be modified in anyway to accommodate water flow. The old system had it being filled from the bottom via intake slats on the side of the lower unit. Now, it fills from the top. What am I missing?

You may want to double-check that you have the hole entree drilled into the correct spot under the water pump base. Make sure the hole is completely inside the water cavity...hard to explain, but if you could post some closeup snaps with the pump base removed we might be able to tell what's going on. How were you testing? Boat in the water, or on some flushing device?
Any other mods to the cooling system? What engine and model?
