Hello.
I was hoping to get some advice on repowering a jet boat.
It currently has a blown mercury 175 hp but I am having trouble finding any descent used ones.
I was told that a merc. 200 or 225 might fit.
Can anyone tell me if those have the same bolt pattern and same size drive shaft as a merc. 175hp ??
Any and all advice is appreciate !!
Thanks.

The 175 sportjets that I've worked on use a bb block same as 2.5 150 outboard . Biggest difference to interchange is the drive spline is 7/8-13 in the SJ crank .

Thanks Rick.
Unfortunately I’m not a mechanic, so a few of those terms went over my head… BB block, SJ crank, etc. And are you saying that the spline can be changed or you think it’s the same.
Thanks again for your help

SJ crankshaft is 13 spline and the outboard has 8 so an outboard powerhead won't interchange without rebuilding it and changing the crank .

Thanks rick.
Im going to have the old 175 sport jet as a parts engine, is it tough to have a mechanic change the crank and spline?

Probably best to find a capable mechanic local to you to go over your options .
