Recently got a crack in my nicely worked Mercury 15 x 34 Cleaver 3 blade prop that I need to replace.
Does anyone have 1 available that they would sell?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of 3 vs 4 vs 5 blades.
Which manufacturers are still making a good quality overhub cleaver prop without having to spend $ 3500+ for a CNC work of art that I would be afraid to run.
thx

Do a search for Buckshot Cleaver. 3030 on this board is making them and can answer any questions.

The amount of blades on a prop is dependent on what your pushing, I'm assuming your replacing the prop for the red boat in your signature pic, in which case I'd recommend staying with a 3 blade to surface nice with less drag, 4 and 5 blade cleavers are for heavier boats that need to launch and surface. As far as a reputable company still making cleavers....I love mazco props . You'll be able to get a new cleaver of that size for roughly 800-900 bucks and it's good quality,
Four blade props run smoooother

No cast prop is going to match a machined prop for reliability. All castings have the risk of flaws. Having said that, some are obviously better than others, and I run cast props.
I've seen a lot of tensile studies on cast car parts. More variation than you'd want.

Do you want to sell the cracked prop? I am working on a home decor project that I need a cleaver for.
Thanks

I was just going to hang it on the wall myself to remind me not to thin out any future props too much. It will be a $1800 piece of art.
