I've never heard of a lightning cat. Is it a copy? How many did they make?
Does it have a balsa core? Wood transom?
Have you had a recent survey?
Can you provide a motor compression and leakdown test?
DDT hours and rpm readout available?

LIGHTNING POWER BOATS - MANUFACTURER (see attached Boat History Report)

- many people say the bottom part of the hull is like a 24' skater and the top side of the hull is like a motion - (I can't verify just people comments)

Boat is constructed of fiberglass

-Transom was professional rebuilt with Marine Grade Plywood and encapsulated with Fiberglass.

The motors (20" shafts) were not new when they were mounted, as the boat was completely retrofitted in 2016/2017
-New Transom
-New Awl Craft Paint Job Rub Rail Up
-New Non Skid
-New Interior
-New Stainless Steel Rub Rail
- 2017 New Wiring (Marine Grade) New LED Navigation Lights, Bilge Pumps, New Fuse Panel
- 2017 New 2 Gauge Battery Wires, New Perko Switches
- 2017 New Verado Rigging, including new shifters, new harness, new smart craft gauges
- 2017 New Fuel Water Seperator Racors
- 2017 New Hydraulic Steering Lines
- 2017 New Bob Machine Shop Jack Plates
-Fully Serviced Engines (once prior to installing) and about 25 Hours ago.

I have put approx. 125 Hours on the motors since finishing the boat. no issues. I would be happy to get compression testing numbers, but the reality is I would want to do it with the buyer so they can see the numbers for themselves and not take my word for it. I don't have DDT reader, but serious Buyers are more than welcome to have the motors checked out. The motors run flawless. I hope this answers your questions.

The bottom is solid glass? No balsa coring?

shawnlbyrne
08-10-2018, 08:51 AM
Im sure the Stringers are wood cored, Im not 100% on the bottom itself.... I believe its solid glass, just from what I can see on a visual inspections. Honestly, I do not know for sure tho.

Here is a few photos, I can assure you there was no expense spared. One photo shows its foam cored. All wood was removed and replaced during the retrofit. I hope this helps answer anyone's questions.

This is my old Motion.. Bought it from a real character in NJ and before that it came from Ted Frazer in Georgia I believe.. Does it still have blue steel trailer that says Frazer performance?

This had twin 2.5 steel bore motors with 260 front halves and Brucato ECU's.. It ran about 110 with 32 Mazcos

The boat did come from NJ, Does have a steel blue trailer.
When purchased the boat it had 200 Johnson 2 strokes on it.
Not sure on the other items.
As far a speeds, this boat has much more in it. Never have tweaked anything on it. Just bolted engines and set up together and used it for what it is. Love the boat, just have to many boats and don't use it enough to justify.
One item that would make a significant increase would be Lower Unit Nose Cones. Major drag there.

there is the before pictures. Seems to be same boat. But do have title in hand, along with verified the hull id. It is a lightning hull, unless you have more to the story. Small world.

SO your saying the registration has Lightning and not Motion as the make? When did they start putting the center dicky do on there. was that there when you owned it Aggie? It sits pretty good with those verados. I often thought about putting a set on my 25. was worried about all the weight in the back.

The Boat was a splash of a Motion, it was built and raced in the 90’s as the Harmsco Hurricane and won many races. The guy who built it and still probably has the molds, He built splashes of many performance boats for years as Lightning Powerboats and currently still makes a 29 Lightning center console. He now builds fiberglass pontoon boats as Catamaran Coaches in Bradenton. His name is John Christensen 941-896-4904...

A buddy of mine purchased this boat and while looking it over yesterday we noticed that it looks like the small center pod was an addition. You can see the heads of the screws that held it on during the bonding procedure. Do any of you guys that know this boat have any idea if this was added at the factory or sometime later and why it was added ? Thanks

gotboostedvr6

To reduce the terribly annoying bounce these cats have between 50 and 70 mph. < Your buddy's cruise speed btw.

The pod used was to small IMO. Will not help anything.

Also get the core checked out.

They put them on triple engines boats to help protect the gear case and lift the boat with extra weight. Lots of spectre and skaters with them.

Pod needs to be bigger or have a tab if you want no hop 50-70. Those engines are the same weight as triple 2.5s but with much less power.

He ran it the other day and said it was smooth as glass @ 60mph with no hop, But I wasn’t there. It was in the gulf and there was a little chop so maybe that helped ? I don’t have any experience with this type of boat but I do know my V-bottom will porpoise on smooth water 1ft chop and it’s all good

baja200merk
10-19-2018, 08:34 AM
Yes your right chop helps a bunch. I got a couple sets of props we need to try on that thing before we do the 1.62 sportmaster conversions and 330+hp tunes :D

actually u probably have some 1.62 alpha gears we can slide into those fleet masters :leaving:

Got quite a few sets of alpha gears but he has 5.44 cases on this thing. Just talked to him today he said he went for a ride this am and it went 80 at 6500 but he had more trim left he didn’t feel it was all out and he wasn’t sure how high he should spin those Vrods so it needs more prop for sure
