View Full Version : Foot Throttle Installation

Is it likely that I can use the existing throttle cable from the hand throttle when I install my foot throttle?

Does anyone know the required cable length for a Voo Doo? The required length is probably similar to any other 13' performance boat. I was going to buy 12'.

Is there a problem if I buy too long a cable?

The boat is a long way away and I want to order the cable before I go to get it.

Thanks

David, unless the existing cable is way to long you'll need a new one.The proper length will depend on where you mount the foot throttle. If you try to guess, chances are good you'll be disappointed. You need to be close.BT

It depends how it's installed. On mine, I needed a very long cable so I could do a clean installation. The cable makes a big S curve: It goes past the hand throttle, turns around, goes under the driver's seat, then turns around again and goes into the rear of the foot throttle, which is a land & sea unit.

dont buy the cable yet..just relax its reall really easy lol.

1) sit in your drivers seat and position it to where you feel comfortable at full throttle (this is where your foot will be most of the time)

2) if needed glass down wood to screw the foot throttle into.

3) once the foot throttle is screws down, figure out where you want to run the cable, and measure out that distance

4) order the size cable you need.

and ur done.. its as easy as that :)

It's easier to deal with too much cable then not enough.

You might want to measure your existing cable or disconnect it and see where it will go. It may be too long for the hand throttle but long enough for the foot throttle, if your lucky.

Buy a in-control foot throttle, You cut the AIRCRAFT cable to length. Very sweet and smooth as butter!

Here's how I mounted mine: I got some aluminum bar stock, drilled and tapped 5 pairs of holes in each one to mount the foot throtle to. There's a big hole at each end to screw the rails to the floor with the big tapered-flat head SS screws, I didn't have a proper countersink tool, so I carefully drilled with 4 different drill bits to taper the hole so the screw would sink into it flush. I ground the ends of the rails down so I wouldn't stub my toe on them, then polished them up so they look pretty. :D

Here you can see the throttle sitting on the rails, this is how it looks in the boat. I started by mounting the throttle to the middle set of holes and sat it on the floor to see where it felt right, with AND without shoes on. Then I screwed it down to the floor at that position. Later, I changed my mind and wanted it moved back an inch. This is exactly why I did it this way. Simple! I just relocate the throttle to the next set of mounting holes!

Thanks for the replies.

I will install the foot throttle (Bob's w/position adjust slide) and then measure for a cable.

Tank, I saw the 16' advice earlier and then someone told me 10'.

hey david
when i did mine on my delta i figured that 14 would be all i wound need but when i stated doing it with my 16 ft it worked good 14 would have been to small. Because u lose a lot when u got from under your bow to your engine.

Thanks Tank, you've talked me into 16.

The Delta is very similar to the Voo Doo so if 16 worked for you it will work for me.

Are you going to the PBCC opener?
