my Starboard motor leaked 2 stroke oil from the lower cowl weep vent ( on the oil tank side) after a medium speed outing after getting it on the lift. Took off the cowl and found nothing leaking or hose separated. Motor ran fine. Any advise??
NICE PAIR

Look @ the oil level in the bottle, should be a little air space, if there is none, the cap could be leaking. They have some weak threads and an o-ring that's touchy.

Check the oil pump on the star side. They are a known problem. The O rings fail and leak. A good viton o ring will fix it. Just look at the front of the pump. Cant miss it. Oil runs across bottom of plenum to port side normally.

Looks like the leak is coming from the oil pump. Is there a fix for it? Shop manual doesn't show much about the pump.

Fix it for cheap....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeQ7PpS7KdA
I use a better O-ring made from viton rubber than the one he uses in the vid. You will also need to bleed the oil system after repair or replacement of the pump. New ones are close to 300 bucks.

Thanks, Xstream! I have ordered replacement viton o rings for the repair. I prefer not to reset the "break-in" procedure after the fix. Does anyone have a DDT scanner near Eastern Oklahoma that would be receptive to letting me use it?

V-King , Do you have the serial number of the engine that the oil pump in the pictures came off of ? :p
To call a board "High Performance" and then suggest the readership or the populous of his surrounding area ( So. Carolina bass fisherman ) are not smart enough to replace an O-ring , align and evenly tighten three screws without putting the plunger in a bind . More than likely wasn't smart enough to name his business something that southern people would relate to … and has to try and con people into buying a $300.00+ pump when a .42c o-ring will do the trick … !
What a Dick Weed
I have to agree. While it might be tempting to replace one leaking o-ring, there are others that are likely deteriorated as well, and the potential of wear in the body, plunger, and then of course, the potential of improper assembly resulting in improper oil delivery.

He has to back up merc since he is a dealer. Can't have the ignerant pupulace tryin to docter they're own engines now can we? It is stupid easy. I gave up on "new " pumps cause they would leak after just a few hundred hrs.. They were all warranty replacements. I took my old o-ring to my supplier and he asked what it was used for. I told him and he chuckled that the o-ring material wouldn't hold the sh.. in a hobby horse's azz.....It is the wrong material for oil.....derrrrr...
