Hi,

At what rpm should an '85 OMC 2.6 GT make peak power?

Just finished a build, got a little over 7 hours on it now. All stock except for cleaning up the intake, transfer area, and exhaust blocks. Been running around on a 22" Raker up to 5500rpm, it's time now to prop-up a bit and load it. It spins that 22 like it's not even on there. Published rpm range is up to 6200, 700 rpm higher than other V6 crossflows. Implies peak power is close to that?

Yea, some where around there. There is an RPM range to stay away from. I think it is from 6,300 to 6,600 or something like that. You can probably find it doing a search. On my 235 I cleaned up the casting flash and smoothed the plunge mill tits in the ports. It would turn 6,900 with a 29" wheel on my Allison SS. 7,000 is max.

If its all stockish then your shooting for 5500 to 6000 rpms for peak horsepower. I think its around 240 at the crank.

IIRC Stoker said somewhere that the resonant range is 6400 to 6600. Havent thought of turning it that fast. Butif you're at 6900 with just smoothing and cleanup? You must have done something better than that.

I forgot to mention cut block and scalped pistons like the XP/GT, but I did not square the ports like they did on them. And it has the 86 GT XP carbs. That is all I did. I did keep the 638/639 heads though. Yours should have those, and yours also has a tad bit more port area.

Put it on a light boat. Mine ran 7K with the same 29" SRX on a light Mod VP boat @ 96mph on the GPS.

You'll never get even close to that on a HydraSport though! ;) LOL!!!

Squared off ports, 638/9 heads etc. I put a set of Carsons reeds in it, ground out all the edges inside the reed cages and added an extra set of filler blocks behind the reed cages. Whats your compression? Oh that old Hydra Sport is gone. Engine is on a Gambler now. Yes its a bass boat but dont hold that against me.

125 to 128. I used the thin head gaskets. Cages are lapped, Boyesen reeds, didn't tough the cages other than lapping, stock fillers.

I was just picking at you! ;) They sold Hydra Sports at the dealership I used to work for. At the time, quality wise, I would have put them with Rangers, etc. Very nice and well built. I like Gamblers. And I have a bass boat too. ;)
