Does mercury use a port or starboard trim and tilt sending units? I have a 1988 200 hp with the sending unit on the port side and a mercury trim gauge. No matter what I do the trim gauge reads down when the motor is trimmed up and reads up when the motor is trimmed down. It seems to me if my sending unit was on the starboard side my gauge would read right. Any input would be appreciated.

Could be gauge incompatibility.
Don’t know of a port and starboard trim sender. If there is a sender on both sides one is a trim limit switch and the other is a sender for the trim gauge. Could you have them mixed up?

Have tried three different gauges and two sending units. The reason I'm asking about port and starboard sending units is, I've seen on ebay sending units listed as port side sending units.

Sounds to me like it’s installed on the wrong side or it’s the wrong sender. My 95’ 175 has it on the port side. Looking at the parts catalog for a 200 lower SN (just guessing a 0B****** number) like yours, shows the sending unit (as the style I have) key indexed towards the starboard side which would make it mounted on the port side of the swivel bracket. There is also a tilt switch or sender assembly shown on the starboard side that is a totally different style.

This is the port style unit I have on mine. The previous post shows the other style I’m not familiar with. They are physically different in appearance. Hope this helps.
