Any suggestions on where to have my DFI/Optimax Gallon jugs filled, I'm sick of paying 40 bucks a gallon and Ive only had the boat for a month now. I'm in Albany, NY area.

All I can add here is that I own and run 3 225 hp opti's on my charter boats and personal boats. None has ever had anything BUT merc prem plus. No problems, and I do a good deal of idling around fishing creeks and chasing tarpon. I am getting 2000+ hours out of my motors. Never bought a drop of "opti" oil.......

I know what your saying, but for me to drain my system and replace it with the non recommended merc oil, just to save money doesn't seem to be my best options at this point.

Use pennzoil burns a lot cleaner at half the price. Order through jet or Walmart and will be even cheaper. Less than $20 a gallon and cheaper the more you buy. It's premium plus tcw3 blend.

I’m not trying to change oil type, just trying to find DFI oil in bulk so I can just fill my jugs for cheaper than 40 a gallon

You are just going to have to call around to the local dealers to inquire about oil in bulk.

I am seriously considering this.

I did that and sold oil to my buds for a small prifit. Having a 55 gal drum of oil sitting around is a hassle. I made it a 5 gal minimum sale after a while just to keep it moving along. A gallon at a time is a hassle.

There’s got to be that guy, in my area with a 55 gal drum of dfi oil in his garage, maybe I’ll call DOMO and see if they sold any 55s in the 518 area recently.

I have been considering buying a 55 gallon drum, I'll fill both of my tanks every other week during the summer.

Ended up buying two 2.5 gallon jugs from DOMO came out to like 165 bucks or something with shipping. Not bad

I run nothing but Penzoil XLF in my opti's, a pair of them at ~1000 hours, met one guy with a pair @ 2500 hours and he used the same stuff, however it happened most opti owners seem to run it.

It seems to be just as good, but another way to put it - I burn about 1/2 gallon of oil per hour. I save $20/gallon buying Penzoil XLF versus merc oil.. So for every hour I run the boat I save $10.

1000 hours of use and I've saved enough to buy a set of powerheads, even if XLF was somehow inferior (which I really doubt it is), in the end it saves you so much you could refresh powerheads.

All the commercial guys I know with Optis use XLF.

Around here, the prem plus is 21 a gallon. (dealer, bulk) The XLF is around 18 bucks a gal. (autozone) I use the xlf for my 2.5's pre mix, and the prem plus for my 3.0 opti's. Getting great length of service on all my stuff. I may switch over to the XLF for everything eventually. I am sure it is a very good oil for ANY 2 stroke steel bore motor that never see's xtreemely high rpm's. I would buy a 4 stroke if I had to pay 33 a gal for opti oil...
