go to the apba website and go to stock outboard records and there is a hot rod on a sorensin boat I believe that ran 69.22mph. For accuracy I use a handheld GPS on my speed runs. champs were so competitive they even disqualified champs in the races against other mercs. Anyone want to get rid of a KG4H or KG7H/Q or A or bigger hot rod?

Thats a beautiful motor!

The Champion Hot Rod DQ stories are quite over blown by a certain Mr. Hunn. We went back and asked the experts: Mssrs Strang (Merc), Rose (APBA cheif inspector from the 50's & 60's), and Leek (protege of Mr. Kalb who was MR. HOT ROD in the day). They hardly recall such an incident.

The Hot Rod B did get Kiekhaefer a little hot under the collar and the Merc 20H "conversion" kits were developed to increase the propshaft hp and performance of the 20H. Ironicly, they were not brought to market until Champion was out of business and the Hot Rods were orphans.

You are correct, there is a Hot Rod record of 69.22 in B Runabout. I couldn't find it last night because I only looked in the current B Stock Hydro listing because I incorrectly assumed a hydro would be faster. Sorenson is famous for both circle course boats and super special straightaway boats. I noticed the C runabout record is only .56 faster than the B runabout record. I suspect the C record is a circuit boat and the B record is a straightaway only boat.

Sorensin has alot of good products, I was thinking of building a class c 'pocket money' hydro later on if I come across a motor. If you like 75H's check out http://www.outboardracing.com/core/mercury2.htm Yes mercury produced products to make it go faster, like the 20h conversion kit with the tuned pipe system..lots of good info and pics here: http://www.outboardracing.com/core/mercury.htm I would sure like to hear one run, friend of mine has a merc collection of about at least 50 mercs with 2 cornpoppers and some H's but he never really runs them I don't think. What kinds of motors do you have mk75H??

I have a 20H with the conversion exhaust, a 35ss (402x), a Mark75H and the Mark75 racing motor in my avatar with the stacks. Parts to make a few more 6 cylinder racers such as a 6 stack motor and a "3rd ported" motor. A beginning of a König HRE 3 cylinder from the 1950's, a McCulloch 630 triple and some McCulloch Flying Scott "Custom" stuff. Also a Merc 700 with an original 1961 Merc 700 type Speedmaster.

I had some 55H's and 30H's but sold them before I coulda got rich off of them, duh.

Some of the pictures on the CORE site are from me.

I'll get some audio from the 20H and Mk75 with 3 pipes on here later this summer.
