I have a 2003 Carb 60* looper that will only idle. It will not throttle up without stalling. Fuel bulb stays pretty firm and fuel supply to motor is unobstructed. I drained fuel from the tank via siphon and flow was good. Carb throats and bowls are cracked. I was able to find new bowls but no new carbs are available. Every used carb i find is also cracked.

Compression is 118 to 120. Spark is strong. I suspect one of the fuel pumps has failed. Id like to completely do away with the VRO/secondary fuel pump and Vapor separator and just use an electric pump. Would it be possible to do this?

Any input before I start my conversion to electric pump?

If the fuel pump was the problem it would run while your pumping the ball. Did you put the main jets back in the new bowls?

I will confirm now but I'm pretty sure I did.

What does the small diaphragm pump do above the vst?

Is the VST really needed on this motor? I've never seen a vst on a carb motor..

Someone smarter than me put it on there :leaving:

That is the vapor pump. Had one leaking a couple weeks ago but that generally creates a idle issue. Check all butterflies are opening and jetting is correct.

racer-why can't the vro be gutted and a regulated electric pump be installed?

You can remove the VST, vro and replumb for an electric pump

I fixed my motor by a combination of replacing fuel lines, vent hose, bulb, intake and carb gaskets, and the VRO fuel pump diaphragm. I cleaned the cracks with pure acetone, filled the cracks with regular jb weld, removed any excess adhesive a let them cure 24 hours. My motor never ran better.
