Anyone seen one?

Any applications for outboards?

Diameter?

Pitch?

Mercury Marine's website (prop section) lists a new 5-blade prop called the Maximus. Anyone know anything about it?

Anyone tried one?

My local Merc Prop loaner doesn't plan to get one but I'm interested in trying a 26".

Interesting... If it's anything like a Trophy it should be impressive. I'll ask more about it in Miami this week...

Although I don't think it'll have broad appeal on this site, I'd like to try running it relatively submerged to gain more acceleration while giving up top end.

I don't really want to go any faster than what my 26 Trophy Plus already gives and I've got plenty of over-rev with it. Figure I could load the engine up a bit more with the extra blade area.

By the way, Greg, have you ever used Cool Edit 2000? My wife has a vocal music collection - 3 minute, 15 second tracks - that we're transferring from tape to the hard drive (for storage) and CD. Neatest thing is the edit capability of it. You can sample tape hiss and then pull it out of the whole thing. Really cleans up a tape. Also, it does some interesting manipulation in terms of time/pitch.

Hunter,

The surprising thing about the Trophy is that it could hold its own with many 3-blade round ear propellers. It's a very well mannered propeller, and I know a lot of guys on here are using them. The Maximus looks like a 5-bladed version of the Trophy, but I'm sure there's more to it than just that. It should be interesting...

I never used Cool Edit 2000. I remember many years ago I had Cool Edit 96, and I thought it was a great little program. It had many advanced features that worked very well.

Currently I use Sonar XL which is essentially professional recording/editing/mixing software and it's just amazing. That would be overkill for what you're doing, but one thing that would be important for any recording is having a decent sound card. Make sure you don't set your input too level too hot, or too low.

Cool Edit sounds like the perfect software for your purpose. Does Cool Edit 2000 multitrack? I thought it did, but I wasn't sure...

Cool edit is about all we need but it's fun stuff. You can really watch the power of a 2.4 Gig notebook in progress. Don't know about multi-track. Figured out early on you need to sample the input level and adjust before you actually start recording. Still, it's impressive to watch it tear up a copy of a copy of a copy and clean it up. When I read "Sonar XL", I thought you were about to announce a new fishing category for the Allison crowd.

Don't get me wrong, that 26 Trophy plus is great but honestly I don't think I should be running a SM lower as I believe it shadows the lower blades at times letting the prop slip and I also think the SM generates its own stern lift near the surface - neither of which I need.

I think I could see real benefits from running more blade area of the same pitch three or more inches below the surface - sort of like a High Five for the steroid crowd.

I'm still looking for someone in OK that runs a 26 Bravo Plus. Looking at the state map, I couldn't have chosen a more remote place in terms of suitable lakes. Keystone is a 2 hr tow.
