Alternator was the amp draw. Just gotta redo the wiring for the fan to come on and off with temp and a/c. Whoever done the original wiring under the hood and for fan relay needs to be shot.

Yep, but they have it stroked to a 488 and fuel injected it. Runs pretty clean with the injection though. Bet it is fun to drive. I'm installing tubular a- arms on it.
Rear bumper looks good. I have a g body Hurst , couldn't imagine it without od and 3.73.

Not sure on trans yet, just got it in last night. Haven't driven it or been under it yet. He didn't say anything about trans, but if I had to guess he's got some type of overdrive in it.
The 200R4 built-up to hold is a great trans. With or without lockup but with is great on the highway. Locks up with range vacuum 12V switch on plenum or also put it on a console switch.

Definitely no where near purdy, but unique anyway. It’s an Avanti II, the original Avanti was made by Studabacker. This one is a 1970 model and is made of a combination of Ford, Gm, and Chrysler parts by the Avanti motor company. This one has a Gm 350 in it, I’m gonna be removing the Quadra-Jet and installing throttle body fuel injection and installing electronic ignition. The little car is excellent condition, just ain’t never seen one like it before.

I don’t remember 100%, but they where gonna try and auction it off. Seems they told me they 8k in it. I liked having it around while we working on it, it was very neat. It was all original pretty much except for the 12v tailamps that where added. The originals where still in place though. We got it running good and the wiring straightened out for the 12v brake lights.

Went with the FAST system. Tried to install it with least amount of of modifications and alterations. Done it to where all of it could be easily removed and original equipment be reinstalled if ever wanted be. Sure is nice to reach through the window and fire it up at anytime and idle always adjusting with a/c and any other loads.

I was thinking about trying that or similar setup. From what I've been told, no real hp gains but better mpg and drivability through cold winter warm-up and hot summer etc. Fuel loop return, O2 sensor(s), ign independent?
FORBESAUTO
05-01-2019, 10:44 PM
It’s a closed loop system with a wide band o2 sensor. The map, iat, and to sensors all located on throttle body, has an injector for each barrel. Running an in-line pump with return going through an adjustable regulator. Supposed to adapt to engine automatically. It’s supposed to flow 1100 cfm and be able to support about 600 hp. This bad boy will lucky to have 200, so we’ll see how good it adjust. Idled perfect, and part throttle really good so far, dumping a little to heavy if ya hit wot instantly. After driving it some, I’ll see if it adapts, it doesn’t lean down enough, I’m thinking I’ll play with fuel pressure.

The module with this unit is self tuning, comes with a dash unit to initially set it up, read codes, and monitor data. I didn’t install it in the car, left a plug accessible under the hood to hook to just got diagnosing. I believe you can get a different ecu for it that you can tune via s lap top. I believe the injectors are 88lb, but only 4, so like having 8 44lb.

I love the old stuff...My truck just hit antique status. Recently took my 90 F250 4x4 off the road for a while to do a complete re-build. Looking at having Barnett hi performance go thru and bump up my 460 EFI. Result would be 450 HP. Any one in Mich ever heard anything about them. They are in Laingsburg...

They do a lot of Frod stuff, all I have heard are good things. A customer that is into fox bodies has a couple of their SBF strokers they've run well enough to break a bunch of transmissions.

I don't know much about that system but knowing what I know about F.I., those injectors are frickin' huge for your engine. I believe you would find your engine would be happier with smaller injectors. If I understood your post correctly you said your engine is around 200hp? If so all you should need is 4 inj. around 36-40lb.hr. size. Four 40lbhr injectors are good for around 260hp.

It’s definitely a little overkill for this motor, but the system does a really good job cutting down the pulse width to keep mixture right.

Your right, not 100% sure what these things are made of. Some kind of composite or something, or at least hope its some time of space age material with price of them:eek:. I just remembered from years back at mercedes school when one of the amg cars came out it had some type of ceramic rotors, so when i saw the price of these babies just figured thats what it was. The center hub is not magnetic, may just be aluminum. They are fairly light for the size of them.

Installed a MSD Atomic EFI system on a 302 in an 65 Mustang. Have to say I think I like this system better than the FAST. The ecu is located on the throttle body assembly and has a seperate driver module that controls the fuel pump via pulse width modulation depending on data from a fuel rail pressure sensor, eliminating the need for a fuel pressure regulator. The driver module also has outputs for two cooling fans programmable on/off temps using the the handheld controller that also plugs into a port located on the driver module. System real easy to install, and easy to set up. Seemed to also adjust to motor much more quickly. Has ability to have timing control when using msd ignition module, nitrous input to richen fuel mixture, works with both pulling and pushing blower/turbos.

Looks like a solid unit. Is the harness long enough to locate the ECU inside the car?
FORBESAUTO
09-18-2019, 05:53 AM
The ecu is actually the unit with the MSD logo on it on the side of the injection/ throttle body unit. But yes, the harness is long enough to put the power driver module inside vehicle. I chose to put it on the fender apron because the wiring for the wideband o2 goes to it and wires for fan(s) from it, that location had it centrally located without having to add extensions to either. I originally was thinking of putting it inside, but the o2 sensor harness limited me to where I could put it.

Really don’t know, both customers made the switch mainly for drivability improvements. Doubt either one even know what their fuel mileage is. I would think it would definitely be better under normal driving just because of it being able to keep the fuel mixture correct at different conditions better than the carb could. Not so sure about under hard running situations where its possible to lose mileage but pick a few ponies due to it being able to flow more air and fuel than the carb .

I told the guys at the shop, “man, if I still had my old Mustang, I’d have definitely went this route” All the money I spent on fuel system and good tricked out carb, I could have went this route and saved a lot of time tuning on a carb to get it dialed in to my liking. Curious to know how they perform all out against a well tuned tricked out carb, my guess probably real close. But for a daily driver, think it’s a no brainer
