Hi guys, am installing reeds into my 1990 GT150, as long as I have the intake off and a sanding roll handy, I'm wondering if I would hurt anything by removing the "step" (see pic). I'll go ahead and smooth off the obvious casting flash, but am unsure about removing the tiny step along with the corresponding bump in the reed cage.
In all honesty, I'm pretty sure I will see zero performance increase since this is a stock engine, but wanted to ask anyways.
If I can find any crankcase stuffers, I'll throw those in while I'm at it.
Thanks for any info!398405

I believe any sharp edge makes the gas drop as the air moves over sharp edges. I have reed stuffers for a 150 omc. I will not be around for a few days so I can't respond to you.

will be good to know what can and cannot be done in the reed area. I was thinking on the lines of a real food clean up on mine.
I have different motor but same principle as in cleaning the intake area.

any smoothing of sharp edges is a good idea......

Almost looks like it's there for clearance from what's to the outside. Might consider a little stuffing to level it out then working the entire area to shape.
