Hi guys wondering what else is involved in changing from a 25" to 15" mid on a rude V8 ? Just swapping the mid section and cutting and respliniing the input shaft. What else needs to be done, who can cut and respline the input shaft in the s.east? Thx in advance for any info rm

I have 25" mids now, I'm putting 4t verados on my 32cc and want to put one of my 300s on a 21 with a short mid. I'm assuming they make or made a 15" mid for the 300 as it was a popular performance engine for a long time. The did/do make a 15 mid for this application correct? Thx for any info rm

They didn't make one. you would have to cut down a 20.

Sam Jenkings bought all the OMC Taylor Mid Molds. But I dont recall ever seeing or hearing of a OMC 15" Mid. All the ones Ive seen or heard of were/are 16". I just messaged him and sent him this Link so hopefully hell chime in. Hers one he had cast awhile back. He does OMC to OMC Lower and OMC to Mercury Lower.

a v8 and a v6 are different both the mid and the adapter, but yes Sam is selling the 16" for a v4/v6

I missed the V8 Part. So all he has to do is Get CHAZ to Fab him one out of Tube like hes done for all the Monty V8's.

true statement, you cannot cut down a 25'' to a 16'' actually for an OMC. Like stated above it have to be a 20'' mid section to be cut down.
I would agree with the call Monty Racing part . Here's some "fishin bote" V-8 stuff we done a while back ...

Approximate total dollars is what Ratman would now like to know. Anyone care to speculate?

The work involved in just cutting down those long rams is crazy.

Here is where I'm at, I shipped my 32 manta cc down to Colombia in a container and on the first run clogged a main jet and blew a cylinder. I had the block sleeved the crank was fine bought two rods and two pistons then took it to my local dealer to fix as I was busy building my hostel to want to do it myself. The douchebag at the dealer told me he was an expert on omc. Three months letter not done I ream his azz. Two month later still not done I tell him f you give me my stuff I'll do it myself. He takes me to the storage area where I find my block crank rods etc sitting on wet cardboard from being rained in! Wtf... There is surface rust all over the crank rods cyliders etc. I
always run my stuff like I stole it so had little faith in it staying together after cleaning everything up with Emory cloth and 1000 grit sandpaper paper, what really sucks is the motor only had 7 hours on It since being rebuilt. M
y other engine has about 40 hours. D
ue to the fact I'm going to run the boat from my island to Cartagena daily to bring out guests its about an hour run each way. I decided not to repair it but put it on a new 21 probably a velocity and buy a pair of verados for my manta.
What's the down side of running a 20/25 mid in a small boat? Bad handling? I figure it will run around 90mph
I have a second mid and ram now so I can ship that stuff up to the states to be modified, and can scrounge up a 20 mid if mine are 25s
So I'm looking at cutting resplining the input shaft, cutting down the mid, and shortening the Rams. Anything else need to be done? Thx so much for the info and help guys. Em

That distance back & forth, I would buy new outboards & rigging. No more worries.

What is the downside of running a 25" mid on a small fast boat?
O i forgot to mention engines here are about 60% more expensive than in the states and 1 year warranty!!!
I don't want to toss my strong running 300 with 40 hours on it in the trash. Plus I have bunch of spares parts off the other engine and a second lower unit.My partner flys to Miami fairly often and never takes a suitcase so he can Take my parts to and from no problem

With a jack plate could I raise my engine enough the get the x dimension high enough for it to run and perform properly?
This is actually my first outboard powered boat other than a lil zodiac with a 25hp yami on it
All my previous boats were I/o. I've always built my own engines, same with my muscle cars. I
'm a newbie to the ob stuff and how to rig them for Max performance, so thanks for all the info guys

I cut a v8 to 12 the Mid is easy to cut but you need a 20 because the 25 is 2.5 longer under the lower mount than the 20 and the clamp is 2.5 longer also. So no you cant (well should not) cut a 25 because it will have to be cut twice.

Poor handling due to higher center of gravity.

On a 21 ft. or bigger boat it would not cause any drastic handling issues. Most people are also not aware that the trim and tilt geometry changes with shaft length. On some boats that change in geometry can mean more leverage which can help on a bigger boat.

Thx so much guys, I'm having a 21 laid up and the heavier version for ride quality so I guess I will keep it stock. that way a will have a spare everything except powerhead rm

For the record, Mercury has three Mercury Outboard Sales AND Service dealers in Columbia. Cali, Salvo, and Bogata. There are a few more, that are strictly service, or sell other Mercury Products only, such as Diesels, etc. Just a FYI. Its all on the Mercury Website.
I am selling this one it's a cut down 20" with a mercury single ram clamp bracket

Boom!
Learned this after cutting my 20" mid down to 16" on my Vector project. The shorter length didnt tuck the prop under the bottom as far as a 20" did.
Had to put negative wedges under the clamp bracket to correct it.
I then got educated in that I was now compensating for that 3* up trim that I gave to down and now was running so much up trim that was out of the "trim" range and into the "trailer" side.
As soon as I'd let off the up trim button, the system would bleed off and the motor would drop. Dont sound serious but try that at 90+ in a 17' vee bottom ;)
Took me while to even figure out what was going on.
