I've determined the drive motor for my land n sea jack plate is not working. Planning to remove it so I can get some info and see if I can find a replacement or fix the current motor. Is it safe for the skeg on the sportmaster lower unit to support the weight of the engine? I was hoping to put a jack under it to take the weight off the jack plate to remove the mounting pins on the drive motor. Holding the engine via a lifting ring would probably be better but I don't have a piece of equipment to lift and hold the weight of the engine.

Best I can tell Land n Sea is out of business so I'm not sure how successful I'll be in finding a replacement. Thanks for any advice.

It probably could support it, but I wouldn't risk it. I lift my motor using a big Mango tree in my yard with a chain hoist. If you have an option like that, that's what I would do

I replaced the brushes in one of my Land&Sea plates years ago just went through all the brushes we had in stock to find something that worked. Any shop that rebuilds electric motors should be able to help you find brushes or rebuild the motor for you.
