If it wasn't a medical situation that kept him inattentive he needs to never take the helm again.
I wonder sometimes if these types of videos are staged for views.

The dude in the front barely made it clear..looks like his foot was still on the rail as it got hit.. Ripped the kicker right off the transom ...Amazing no one was killed. I see that shizit all the time down here, one guy said his gps was clear.. we had to inform him that it wasnt like radar..

The story goes that the old geezers son-in-law told the cops he was telling the old man to pay attention because the old man was on his phone all day (texting and stuff). The old man said he couldn't see the little boat because he was sitting at the helm and could not see over the bow. Surprised that old man has lived so long

"But Larsen denies the allegations and told investigators he couldn’t see over the dash of his boat because he was sitting down. The 75-year-old uses a motorized scooter when he’s on land."

Seen it on the news last night. They are suing the driver of the boat as he was on his cell phone texting at the time of the accident.
I see it all the time. Just the other day I was on the highway passing someone on the left when my passenger said, check it out the old lady is texting while she's driving. She had to be at least 75 if not more.

This style (big hi riding bows) of boats do have visibility issues when close to an object low in the water. Especially when the driver is seated. Not an excuse at all, just an issue that does exist and we small boaters need to be aware of it. Similar to the warning on big trucks saying "if you cant see my mirrors, I can't see you".

Bottom line is, if you can't see where you're going, you shouldn't be going anywhere.

I would have been cranking that motor and moving fast if I was the guy in the fish boat. That waving his arms didn't do crap. Guy couldn't see him. He had time to get the f out of the way....I have been in that situation myself and yelled for everyone to sit down as I cranked and blasted out of the way. Takes 5 seconds...The fish boat bears some blame too imo.

Or bust a cleat when you run out of slack if you haven't moved the six feet over to get out of his path.
