Anyone have experience with OMC / Johnson v6 or v8 power steering.
I have twin 1989 v6 225's, the system is pretty loose (sloppy). Is there any way to bleed the system ?
The system is original and might just be worn out....i don't want failure at 75mph.
Thanks

First thing I would do is check pump psi.

Also...been working with Sea Star on a replacement hyd system. The pkg would be;
A Pro tournament cylinder, a Pro supercharged helm, 1500psi lines and hardware kit.
Your thoughts on this package

use the screw in trim pressure gauge 984827, 850-1000psi at 1000rpm says the engine manual
There is a shimming procedure on the control valve
I'd be interested to try a full power system like Latham do for sterndrives whilst you have the pump side already done

If you take the v8 pump output to a Latham full power helm to a side ram I cant see it not working once he knows it pump 1000psi?
What was the issue?
You might have to find the wing plate

The issue is the system is old works hard and is sloppy... Just wanted to see if I could tighten things up for the meantime. I plan on replacing all the bolts in the linkage and the ram I'm sure that will help some. I really want to go with a new front mount system still researching my options.

Do you have an engine manual, it shows how to re shim the valve

I have 2 ram assemblies you can have for free if you pay the shipping. I am tripping over them and they are days away from the scrap pile. They came off V8s. Pm me for more info.
