Got a pair of 05 275s

Took it out last time brought it in and wanted to do a end of the season leak down on them. Checked them out and they checked out alright. Slapped everything back in them then dropped it off at the mechanics to have the motors raised the fuel drained and to check a gauge.

Got it back put 50 gallons in the main tank put the props on and went to see how she ran. Port motor finally fired but ran like ass. Had to have throttle at half throttle for it to idle at 1000 rpms. Anything less it would die. Would only start like that out the water. Put it in and nothing.

Starboard motor would just spin like there were no plugs in it. Took it back to the shop. They checked it today and said the starboard motor they think some how jumped timing. #3 had 50 and #5 had 45 on a compression test and everything else had 0. It ran 3 weeks ago just fine before we did the leak down test. Anyone every have anything similar happen?

You let the motors rotate counter clockwise when doing the leak down test and the timing chains slacked on the tensioners and jumped. Have a nice day. :)

ouch, that sounds expensive.

If the valves were not backed off could have bent valves if its not a free running engine.

Would ins. cover self inflicted damage on the motors? Was an accident after all....

Had a customer this year unhook from his truck before chalking the wheels on the trailer. Down the drive way it went, across the street into a tree. Insurance paid for hull repair, upper drive and trim cylinder.:confused:

Yeah we kinda figured that might of been the case. Checked today the intake cam was off. Reset checked everything normal on leak down and compression. First time doing a leak down on a marine motor and well. First time ever had this problem. Learn something new all the time I guess. Just glad we caught it.

Time to build the motor up and twin charge it :)
