Wow! What a great time we had in Mt. Pleasant with ODBA this weekend...
Again, Ed Hess and crew from the CBH and the City Of Mt. Pleasant really went above and beyond to put together a terrific event. The hospitality from the folks from the Mt. Pleasant Country Club (to a bunch of boat racers none the less) was outstanding... great food on Saturday evening and a beautiful facility.
Weather was perfect all weekend, cool with a light breeze both days... water was clear and clean, and the racing was typical ODBA... close and competitive. The real stars of the show (besides our ODBA racers) were the children... absolutely crazy over ODBA's Prize Patrol and PPP (Prize Patrol Princess)Laurie Smith from Florida.... We gave away a ton of prizes including T-shirts, hats, sun glasses, Gerky Rope sandals, Mercury Racing tatoos, ice cream. snow cones, but the favorite items were the in-expensive water guns from Walmart... the children had a blast!
With the other races across the country this weekend, our boat count was down slightly, but this allowed us to revert back to our 8 & 8 style race format in which each class gets to run twice... It reallly worked well, the large crowd got to see two full days of racing action.
Racing was fast and furious on the Liquid Quarter Mile this weekend. Bruce Tripp lead a strong contingent of racers from the East Coast while Al Stoker brought out his gang from the West Coast. Racers from Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Forida, and Tennesee filled out the rest of the field. The Triads, STVs, and Allisons were all out in force and the competition was fierce in Modified Production, Lake Racer and Pro Gas. Sport Racer had five entries that featured EFI2.0L Mercs, FI V4 OMCs, X-Flow V6 Johnsons, and carb V4s... good show for the first time out...
As Mike Watts said so well, we've got a great ODBA Official staff.
Our Race Control ladies Jenn Stovall, Sherri Blocker, Charli Porting, and Sherri Burden were all wonderful as usual, David Gray, Ro Yale, Wayne Tripp and Captain Tubby also did a temendous job. Special thanks to Galen Burden and Russ Rogers for all their hard work and a Big Thumbs Up to ODBA for another event that we can all be proud of.

Once again we had a fabulous race at Mount Pleasant Texas. I missed Saturday but not there for Sundays racing. As usual everybody did a fantastic job from the supporters of Cyprus hospice,Ed Hess in particular the only name that I really recognize do to the fact I don't remember them lady's name who gave such eloquent talks on the Pa. from David Gray, David Berry, Don Ballard, through all of the other workers helped put on a great race. A big attaboy should go to Gaylon Burden The best starter of any race I have attended in the past 8 to 10 years. He should be voted by acclamation to be our permanent official starter. Thanks again to all, my condolences to all those that did not attend for what ever reason. ;)
