Does anyone have any experience using a hull speed coat? I have a 21 Liberator tunnel so not much hull in the water at WOT, however always looking for a little extra speed if it works? I heard that waxing the bottom actually hurts top speed?
Thanks,

Skip it, don't put any coating on it. But, inspecting your hull to make sure it's perfect or needs blueprinting is worthwhile. https://www.wavetowave.com/home/2017/8/9/blueprint-until-you-are-blue-in-the-face

Sand the running surface where she is the fastest now, then coat it with primer. All you'll need. Just don't leave it in the water.

Don't do that.

The speedcoat works. It is very, very, very expensive though. Doug Harrel is a certified dealer/installer and the results have been documented several times by big manufactures (Nor tech, Mystic, Cigarette), and a few others. Most of the applications have been on the big center consoles which have a massive wetted running surface in comparison to what most of us deal with but it works. I know of a couple of cats "that consistently get in or near the winners circle" that are also taking advantage of it. Get ready for sticker shock when you hear the price.

What are the mph gains?

Would love to see the results, please show them. On a large hull over 150 MPH, it is possible but I still would be very skeptical.

Lets just put it this way. A guy bought a 39 Nor Tech and after witnessing the change in his friends boat (another 39 quad outboard that had it installed) he paid the 11K to have it put on his boat (rubrail down). Not only was there a performance increase but it also makes cleaning and maintaining the bottom a breeze, and it seals the and protects the paint. The name of the product that Doug sells is called Ceramic Pro. They use it on military satellites that are placed into orbit. The marine product has a 3 year warranty and if you get your annual inspection done, the warranty is automatically extended. Ceramic Pro is the real deal. Doug has aerospace coating experience from when he worked at NASA, and would not put something over his paint jobs that would put them at risk.

There are several other knockoffs out there and those might not have the same results. That it all of the info. that I have first hand knowledge of.

Ya, ceramic pro is great, have it on my car. And ya, it's hydrophobic so makes cleaning easier for sure. But it is not a speed coat in the context of what the OP was talking about, it is a very thin clear nano ceramic coating. Great product, but it won't make the boat faster.

Agree. Here's the full article link (http://www.aeromarineresearch.com/publications/PBR_April2014.html)...

I will check with him and see what the documented performance increase was and post it.

Put some rain-x on the pad every time you go out. It works, but only lasts for 1 day.
