I see Evinrude and Mercury sells 1/2 inch bolt kits but not sure what grade and they're expensive.

Any reason I can't use these? A lot stronger than regular stainless bolts.

ARP makes the very best fasteners. imo.

I'd use them in a heart beat. Use their stuff in ALL my hot rod car motors.

I've been using the ARP bolts for 10+ years - It's nice not worrying about if the bolts holding your engine on are going to fail

McMaster-Carr has grade 9 bolts that will work also, but they aren't fine thread and they aren't stainless

I have been using these as well in salt water (rinsed after use) for 5+ years with very little rust forming..

normal stainless bolts are grade 5, use either brass nuts or a teflon thread sealant on the stainless nuts so they do not gaul.

This might be a good place to ask a related question...

What material is the plastic washers used on an adjustable jack plate that allows the plates to slide?

Where to get some of these?

Thank you...

Not wanting to jack the thread.....

Most of the time, the merc bolt kits are cheaper than buying everything separately, and they have the correct thickness/diameter washers with bronze fine thread nylock nuts, which are extremely difficult to find in 1/2-20. I used the ARP SS bolts in place of the merc bolts the last go around, just because they come in 1/4" increments up to their maximum length and have a much more consistent threaded length compared to the merc hardware. With my thickness transom and 20 to 12" adapter plate, the 4.5 merc bolt was too short, and the 5.5 was too long. As far as strength, you'll tear the transom out of the boat or break the clamp bracket before shearing off any properly fastened SS bolt, so realistically that's not an issue.

Transom bolt kits have one large diameter thick washer, and one thick small diameter washer, the Jackplate bolt kits have two thick small diameter washers (which are, btw, smaller than normal USS washers so they fit on the motor side correctly) Ebay usually has them for a decent price...

10-67755A22 BOLT KIT, Transom (2.50 Inch)
10-67755A26 BOLT KIT, Transom (3.50 Inch)
10-67755A13 BOLT KIT, Transom (4.50 Inch)
10-67755A14 BOLT KIT, Transom (5.50 Inch)
10-67755A15 BOLT KIT, Transom (6.50 Inch)
10-67755A17 BOLT KIT, Transom (7.50 Inch)
10-67755A18 BOLT KIT, Transom (8.00 Inches)

UHMW is generally used in applications like jackplate slides.
