Hi,
I have an offshore trim cylinder with a mercruiser pump.
Trim up works fine on the trailer and at idle. Once in gear and under load no trim up anymore.
I can hear the solenoid ticking but nothing more.
Is this a bad solenoid? I always thought if it went bad it doenst tick anymore...
Thanks

Doubtfull, probably a hydraulic issue.

Are you sure? Its hard to believe the motor works at idle and not when on plane. Do you have single or tripple ram trim. Does down work when on plane?

Yes I'm sure... On the trailer and also in the water works fine. Once on plane it's over.
Trim down works all the time!
Problem is my trim pumps are located just in front of the transom and behind the fuel tank. Not handy to reach... Also as it works fine on the trailer I have to test it in the water to check if its fixed or not. Might take gas tank out and use portable...

Stupid question, but did you check the relief screw to be sure it's tight? I had a pump motor go out years ago and open the relief to get the motor up on the motor toter. When I put the new trim motor on I forgot to tighten the screw and it would go up on the trailer but not under a load.

So how can you tell the motor is not working on plane with the pump back behind the tank and you running the boat? For the motor to trim up on the trailer, the motor and solenoid must work. Not sure what would/could change on plane that would cause them to stop. Bullet has a good idea, hydraulic leakby of the bypass screw.

Its also when running in gear. I can def hear the trim pumps above the engine sound at idling speeds.
Also very occasionaly it doent work when on the trailer..I can clearly hear the click. Motor not spinning.

Check and clean all your main and control power connections. If it continues, replace the up solenoid. Pump motor would be last thing.

Yes I think that seems the best...

Merc trim solenoids are trash, replace the solenoids and when your motor poos out get an Arco.

My mistake, I thought you meant that the trim motor was running but woudn't raise the motor under a load.

Did you just change out that pump?
I had a similar problem on a boat where the trim worked fine on idle, trailer and when backed off the throttle or under a load. It turned out to be the hoses were reversed. Up hose on DN and down on UP. Up has much more power.
Just a thought if your solenoid is not the issue.

It worked perfect for almost 2 seasons. Than suddenly this appeared.
Whats an arco Lynn?

Arco are after market pump motors.
