OK, This alarm has been going off since I bought the motor last summer and I am determined to find the problem:

Engine:

1999 Pro Max 300

Symptoms:

The alarm goes off 4 long beeps, but at no particular interval. It does it with the key in run whether the motor is running or not. The first warning beep sounds when you turn the key to run, then the 4 beeps sound the first time within about a minute. The next time could be a minute, could be five minutes. There is no set interval.

Troubleshooting so far:

I hooked it up to a DDT last week and found everything to be within tolerance. Obviously I'm getting oil, and I changed my water separator twice since last July.

How do I override the warning modules to see what is causing the false alarm.

This is what the owners manual tells me:
____________________________________________

Low oil level - 4 beeps every two minutes

Engine over speed protection system - Continuous beep

Faulty Electrical sensor - constant beeping

Water full in fuel filter - 4 beeps every two minutes

_____________________________________________

The service manual tells me nothing as far as testing sensors.

Based on the above, my problem must be the low oil warning module or whatever it is that detects full water in the fuel filter right??????????

How can I test these two things?

Mike, I have a question for you , when you have changed your Water separating filter ,do you keep using the same sensor that screws into the bottom of the filter? The reason I ask is that I have a 1999 Pro Max 300 on my Velocity, and a couple of years ago I had some intermittant beeping going on. I picked up a new sensor and filter and solved my problem. Frank

I think the fuel filter comes with a new sensor in the box doesn't it? If it does, then of course I put the new sensor on.

Is there a way to test the sensor?

Thanks for pointing that out, maybe I'll just order a new sensor and start there.

If that's not it, I might replace the oil warning module next.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows the tests or the override methods in order to determine which sensor it is.

My 1999 Optimax did the same thing. I took it to the dealer, he put it on the puter and changed 1 or 2 sensors. No problems since, and did'nt cost much!

I'm not worried about cost, The problem is, it's spring, dealers are busy, and there are no dealers near me. If I leave my boat at a dealer, it will be there for a week at minimum, and it won't get the care or safety that I give it here at home. I don't know any dealers that I trust.

I don't leave my boat there either. I try to make an appointment and just tell them you want it plugged into the puter and tested for sensors. It does'nt need to be a Hi-Po dealer. It's worth a try! Just tell them you don't want to leave it overnight. Good-luck

at the fuel filter and see if it stops.

Tried that already. Did the same with the oil warning module.

Do the same for all the sensors, in it still does it there is probably a short in the wiring harnesses. Had a couple self starters last year, one in the guys garage! Was'nt pretty! Shorts can be a pain.

Well it can't be on the boat side, cause it has done this on both boats that I had the engine on.

I finally read through the service manual thoroughly. It's hard to find what you are looking for when just skimming.

You can do a continuity test on the wires from the low oil warning sensor. There should not be continuity between the two wires if the sensor is working properly. I'm going to try this tomorrow when it stops raining again.
