I have a 1992 Laser and I believe I'm having issues with the tach. After shutting the key off the tach will start rising back up. Is it just a wiring issue or is the tach bad itself?

When I turn my key off my tach goes back up to around 900 sometimes just 700.
will do it even with the wires off the back.
mine is omc but I am pretty sure my old merc done the same.

It is probably return spring inside tach. If it does that, tach. is probably inaccurate. test tach. in boat, or remove it & take to dealer with tach. tester. some tach,s. it may be normal.

With the battery switch off turn the key on/off again and see if it zeros.
