I'm slowly getting my boat together I don't think it'll see the water this summer but definitely and by Spring .I'm at the point where I need to start mocking up the wiring harness... as far as my knowledge of building boats I think the wiring is my weakest link.... there wasn't much there as far as wiring when I disassembled the boat so I'm starting fresh with nothing.... my main questions are do I need two batterys or just one ... I'll have a hydraulic pump for the Jack Plate and one for the trim a stereo but I don't think I'll have an amp just a few speakers off the head unit ( I may decide to put an amp in a supper too but I'm still torn between a good stereo or saving a few lbs. ) a few interior lights and your normal gauges.... if you guys have any pointers for me I would appreciate it like any major things not to forget or some things to stay away from when I'm setting it up....... it's almost ready for paint so my idea was to put the entire wiring harness in and then remove it for paint..... what's your thoughts on One battery versus 2 ? .... Thanks for any input you guys are always a big help.

Most only have one battery but it kind of depends on what motor with what charging system. I would recommend a disconnect and I also like a terminal block up front.

For a stereo you need two batteries with a cut off switch. You don`t need to play the stereo on the run battery because it will suck it down without you knowing it and when it`s time to head in guess what, No power. It`s a common mistake.

That depends on the stereo,I can run mine for 6 hours while trolling and still start motor and the motor is not running to troll.

I also run one battery and I have an amp as well and have had it on for quite a while on the sand bar I could always test in the garage leave stereo on for 5 to 6 hrs and see if it cranks I know mine will start with amp and everything

We use this (https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Charger-Starter-Floodlight-Phone/dp/B01B6N52E8) to power a set of Bose (https://www.amazon.com/Bose-Companion-III-Multimedia-Speakers/dp/B00CD1PTF0)speakers connected to my music library on DW's Phone.

First day we had the power supply it came in handy jumping a fellow boater at the launch, took several cranks to start but still had plenty of power for a full day of music.

That's a nice setup...Bose speakers are great. Removable makes even better. I did a concealed mount head unit in mine and some speakers stuck under the bow. My next system will be like the one h2o has. Self contained and removable.

Snip......"That's a nice setup..."

The DW got tired of 'MY' library.....insisted on a radio.
Two years ago I added a Sangean PR-D5.....she's not happy 'til I'm not happy.
The radio gets velcro'd to the front of THIS (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001N7X67I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), the power supply to the back, hung over the footboard of the GS.

POI...I've gotten pretty good at tuning with my toes.

If you put a 10v zener diode in the ground wire for the stereo & amp; they will shut off when the battery gets down to about 11.5v or 12v... and they will shut off while cranking the motor (if needed) if the voltage drops below that.

The stud is short (less than 1/2") and 1/4"-28 thread so you would probably need a thread adaptor to use this as the bolt for the negative cable and then attach the accessory's (that you want to shut off) grounds to the ring terminal.

16 amp or 40 amp? Efi or carb?

on my promax on my bass boat I finally took the 16 amp electronics back off for good, I HAD to have the 40 amp for long runs and fishing with a good group 24 cranking battery.

I could run it longer if i disconnected the small 24v trim lawn tractor battery wiring and wired them parallel but not much longer.

If I had gone to a group 27 or 31 I could have run longer I'm sure but didn't want an extra battery just for fishing and it would be too heavy to race with.

I was only running troller(off two separate troller batteries) and an HDS 5 and 8, that's with out running livewells etc and an autometer tach no other electronics running
