That lake is one of Michigan's many treasures for sure. There is not a lot that I miss about living up there other then the lakes and friends.

No sharks alligators jellyfish or anything else that is going to kill your ass if you decide to swim...the water doesn't dissolve everything on your boat....

Its a awesome area, lived here all my life. The only problem is your boating season only lasts 5 months at the most with only like 3 months of water warming to swim. Most all the water around here is very clear fresh water. When my kids were little I would throw a hand full of change off the boat and they would dive with out masks and no burning eyes. Kept them busy for an hour or so. My wife always looked at me like what the hell. I always said I was paying for swimming lessons!.

This is true. You need to have a couple boats designated for the salt and run the rest for fresh water "my theory" anyway. I have been here for 13 years now and still don't ski or jet ski much but going to the boat parades at Christmas time and running on New Years day seems to offset all of the negatives. I just got off the phone with my dad "on Lk. Mitchell" in Cadillac and he was bringing wood in for the fireplace-no thanks. Headed over to the West side this afternoon to hang out with the Lake Tarpon crew and hit he sandbar tomorrow (water temp is 86 in the gulf).

We pulled the Allison by that lake about 3 years ago. I was going to put in but ended up not, mainly because I did not know if there were rocks, sandbars or other unmarked hazards. Also, the 2.5 wasn't running so good. The lake sure looked nice tho. Are there any hazards there?

Not really. It will get extremely rough for smaller boats on occasion. The sand bar at the South end of the lake is heavenly....it is also very very deep.

The only hazard is that the sand bar has turned into a mega party stop. Mega eye candy, but also lots of cops. To many complants on loud music, minors drinking and garbage. Cops even in shorts walking the sand bar. Michigan inter waterways also have 55 mph limit which is a good reason to get pulled over. Nice place you just have to keep it cool... 3.5 beers!.

Water Wonderland for sure. Lived on Peninsula Drive, right on the lake side, right on the beach for bonfires, & went to Old Mission School growing up. Way, way too short of a season to do anything warm though. Torch Lake is gorgeous, as is everywhere in the Grand Traverse Bay area, its God's country, but just cant justifiy being that freaking cold for 10 months out of every year of my life. Was just there for a funeral.

A lot of inland lakes are 55 mph. The great Lakes are international water ways , 1 mile offshore there is no speed limit or noise control.

Amazingly enough, only a handful of lakes in Minnesota have speed limits. Unless of course you are on a snowmobile - then its 55 mph. I suppose when boats get equipped with brakes and headlights our speed limit will drop to 55 also (sarc).
