Sometimes customers come in with the strangest problems. For instance - and I am not making this up - this one showed up the other day for the Service Department to work on. I believe a picture is indeed worth a thousand words here.

That's standard down here, people never pull their props and grease them when they should. The when the corrosion takes a good bite, need to melt the hub to get the prop off then cut the hub off. The dou-props are fun to say the least.... double your pleasure.

Yupper. That's pretty much exactly what the guys in Service did to get it off. They really wanted to keep the redneck gear / prop puller installed and used by the customer for posterity though. You guys didn't think we rigged that thing up now do you?!

That actulally not a bad redneck engineering there.... I've done it a few times with success..... Except my puller was a Snap-On

But did it work?

But did it work?

Nope. That's why they brought the boat to us. It took one of our guys a couple of hours, lots of heat, several BFHs and lots of bad words to finally get it off.

We did return the "redneck prop puller" to the owner intact though.

Any of you guys old enough to remember Mercury's original "Anti-Corrosion" grease, that was used mostly on propshafts in saltwater? It was discontinued, I believe, sometime in the 80's. It's replacement grease product had the same name, but was a completely different grease. The original never came of of your hands, propshafts, or anything else it touched. It was like thick glue.

But did it work?

I have a puller I use for pulling the front prop off volvo cases. Has two plates (one goes in front of the prop) and 9/16 all thread. Works like a champ. Usually pulls the hub out some though so a rehab is needed.

We also have one customer that no matter how much or what kind of grease every year I have to use the puller. Damndest thing....

I use extreme grease on all prop shafts and with the exception of that one I have no problems down the road. Even if the customer doeaent come back for a few yeara.
