Hello, I am putting the final touches on my Stroker Bass Boat project, and changing out my lower unit is next i believe, I am running a 250sx with a Torque master gen 2 gearcase, I am considering a Sportmaster or I have been told a Bobs machine Shop conversion is a good alternative, just as fast at fraction of cost. the gen 2 tops out at around 80, but also blows out, not alot of fun at that speed.

Coned torquemaster is supposed to be better than sporty (on a v-bottom). Not sure what Bob's backlog is, but mine has held up well for years (not torquemaster but Bob's coned back in the 90's)!

My coned torquemaster runs much better on my superboat than my sporty did.

My coned TM also ran better, faster and with better control then my Sportie on my 21 RS with a 300PM.
Do keep in mind that every boat or setup will like and respond differently to lower units, engine heights and props. Even if they are similar to someone else's setup.

I always figured the big skeg on the sportys was the problem. Just more drag.

On the Stroker when you have a trolling motor it is better to run a sporty. It will blow out with a coned unit like the bobs combo. You have to realize that on a Stroker you will be running engine heights in the 2 to 3.5 in above the pad range to attain your best speeds.

So you need the bigger skeg in that application. Gear case won't matter since the skeg is the only thing in the water at that height.

Yes Stroker run some extremely high engine heights.

This video gives a some great shots of the gearcase on a Stroker while running at speed.

No not at 80mph, just cone it unless you wanna run that high, my bobs coned 4 hole cle with welded in blowout ring runs way nicer than my sporty on my ally xb03, adding a 3l 250xb this year and just coning my gen 1 TM. I have heard that the gen2 blows out sooner than gen 1, most guys i know get 85-88 on gen1 b4 it gets squirelly

On a stroker yes, on other boats coned lowers like tq masters and cle’s Etc generally are a little faster but on a stroker run a sporty for best results.

All boats are different and don’t all like the same things.

Allys and bullets etc generally like coned 200 cases etc the best but not strokers

The Stroker with the 250xs and a sport master is capable of speeds over 100 mph.. Set up for fishing with a prop that will hole shot very well and carry your load at speed you should see mid to upper 90's.. Definitely go for the sport master!

I have both, coned unit, and sporty, and I prefer the sporty, I have more confidence in it, and its all aluminum, so no paint or filler to chip. Looks better, and fastest guy I know runs a sporty.

Another vote for the sportmaster. Maybe mine was an isolated incident, but my coned unit had problems with the multitude of external leak-points on the water transfer hoses and fittings. I struggled with air leaks and loss of water pressure. Now I have an HD sportmaster and it looks to be a less leak-prone design.

I am running a Bob's bigfoot myself and I love it, good water pressure, but i also have thought about the sportmaster due to better gearing, just have to decide what's best 4 ur setup

Does anyone know which is the best product among those listed on this site? https://11must.com/best-fish-finder/

I'm currently running a gen 2hds 10, the new garmin with the live scope is the best thing I have seen to date. Imo

I have a stroker and the sportmaster is the best choice, I have a allison mod sporty also, swept back skeg, filled pickup on left side, fresh, dont work well on my stroker, but the cats meow for a alison. the larger skeg will give you stability @ triple numbers

For a V-king I have a bobs coned CLE I’ve yet to run and a JC coned big bearing case. By eye the JC looks like it will run faster but I wonder how the coned CLE would compare? Anyone?

If you need any information on Stroker boats, or the setup thereof, you need to get in touch with Kurt Moryer. He has done some extraordinary things with them, and he's one of Chub's best guys at big numbers, and setup. He's run them up to 116 mph, best I can remember.
