Hi Guru's

I'm having some issues with my Excels and thought you maybe able to help.

I took my boat the other day fishing and had the following issues occur:

Engine 1: (Starboard)

Just rebuilt carb's as it was idling rough. Ran it up on the muffs and tested OK, idled fine.
Took it out and as usual started easy even cold and would run fine while in cold start mode, soon as it dropped the idle down to 700rpm it would cough and stall. Adjusted the idle up to 800 - 900 rpm and it coughs/misses but keeps running. Could this be a Carb issue or an ignition/power issue? (will start with regulator/rectifier)
After the rebuild off idle it runs fine and is running harder than ever at WOT, midrange is also strong.

Engine 2: (Port and bigger issue)

This motor had carb's rebuilt last year and was running fine. Cold start has got noticeably harder. (almost drained both batteries before it fired)
Got it running and was OK, ran out to fishing grounds and moved around to a few different places over 2 -3 hours without issue. Then it stopped responding when throttling up it would get to about 1600rpm and then drop off. Trying again I could get it to 1600 and then without touching the throttle it would just rev up to 2600+ rpm, throttling up from here and it would respond as normal, didn't seem to have same power at WOT ~300rpm less than usual. I adjusted the TPS thinking it may be to far advanced, seemed a little better but still had similar behaviour.
Then on a longer run back up river it started to cut out intermittently, this was quite violent, motor would cut out and lift up then re-fire then push down again with a firm thud.

Batteries are a little old and were charged over night, starting the Port engine almost drained them completely but they seemed to charge up fine after running down river.
Both engines get fuel form the same tank which was fresh prior to heading out.
There is a water separating filter inline.

I have parts but before cycling through them all I thought it would be worth while checking in with you guys.
Any input would be very greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Jason

did you synchronize the carbs when you re-installed them?

I assume that you are referring only to engine 1 issue.

But good point no I didn't. I will take a look at that on the weekend.
