A couple of my boats use these and the ones I've got are getting to be in bad shape. Thinking about replacing them and I don't know if Moeller is any better than Attwood or Seachoice or whatever?

Moeller is by far the better.....the new CARB rated ones are seamless. I found a left-over 7.5 gal that fits my 77 Viper perfectly under the port side splash well.

Just bought a low profile Moeller for the Whaler. So far so good. 14 gallon and fits perfectly under the seat.

You can still get a replacement vented cap, just have to buy it seperate. I have old metal merc cans in my rig with custom pickups.

Yes, make sure you don't leave fuel line hooked to motor if left out in the sun, motor will flood from can blowing up like a balloon. Or figure out how to vent 2 piece cap, not too hard.
buy new tank, and buy old style vented caps. they still sell them
if you dont put the old style cap on the tank expands and leaks all over the place, they make a mess

Also a vaccum can develop in the tank (without a vented cap) and overcome the suction of a pulse pump and cause fuel starvation when running high rpm or load for more than short runs.
Definitely get the vented cap if buy a new can!

Karsten be real cautious about fumes with a vented tank enclosed under the splashwell w/electrical. I am attaching a vent hose to my cap to be routed outside. I heard of a fume explosion from a enclosed vented tank yrs ago.

I should have plenty of ventilation as there is an 8"X12" inch gap on either side of the rear panel.....I have never smelled gas other than when I added fuel. I never fill it all the way either as the Optimax seems to be running on air as it is.

Looking good! Thought it may be tight. Sweet setup!

I have added fittings to the plastic tanks for fuel returns or vents. Even the Attwood 6 gallon tanks have a spot thick enough to drill a hole smaller than the fitting and force it to thread in. Remove , Teflon and reinstall. Never had a problem. Mike
