1998 Mercury 200 EFI OG750392
There is excessive play in the steering tube and I want to rebuild.

Can someone please provide a diagram for the assembly and/or part numbers for the bushings
My shop manual has nothing on this assembly..
thanks

Here this is easier. Just follow the link and it will have all parts for your motor.

Don't want to steal the thread but having the same issue. Rebuilt the rebushable parts but it's the center section that's got all the play. Any machine shops to drill and sleeve, or cut and weld. Or do I have enough of an excuse to throw it away and get a Giegertek clamp?

Can someone confirm I have the general right idea on the procedure:

Crane to Engine lift point
Remove Hydraulic Steering Ram
Remove Bolts holding Brackets to engine with red arrows
Slide Engine away
Pull item 18 tube out from top
Replace 2x item 3

Thank you Capt.

Tilt , swivel , bucket , brackets ... it's all so confruzing ... ;)

But as far as the tilt tube hole goes , yes I can bore the original hole press in a bushing and use a piloted ream to bring the hole back straight and to the proper size ..

Is it possible to remove 'bolt 9' without removing the powerhead to get to the nuts? Planning a clamp swap soon and I've wondered about this.

Now if you could just figure out what to do about that pesky shift shaft that goes down thru the exhaust plate and than down the steering tube. Might be a problem.

If it was fresh water and you got a cherry picker still not a big deal. 10 nuts and off with its head, powerhead that is:D

Knock the roll pin out of the shift shaft arm up top and pull the shift shaft out through the bottom..... But ya still need to pull the powerhead to get to the top mount nuts (13)

Maybe he will get lucky and have a single piece with solid upper mounts:D If all the planets would just align.

you cannot get at the nuts, its powerhead off job.
while at it put in solid mounts and forget about them and have nice tight motor.

This will be a good winter project, only a month or so left of boating season
If I have this whole thing apart definitely will add solid mounts & maybe reeds

If you have metal reeds replace them before they go threw your motor.
