Hey guys, Sorry this is a little long winded but bear with me. This is my first post on here so I hope someone can help me:
I've got a 1992 175 Evinrude Intruder Spitfire series on my '92 Stratos Fish N Ski FS289. I've had it 6 years and bought from the fella who bought it new. Hard to tell it from new. Very well taken care of.
At the first outing after the winter, took the boat out to go fishing.* Was hard to start and had a rough idle but cleared up. Around June, the engine became a little harder to start with a rough idle and rough at low speed. The engine would always run up to about 5300 rpms WOT at about 53 mph (I think it could run faster if it weren't for the 4 blade 24 pitch prop)..I thought possibly a carb issue at this point. Took it to a boat repair place, inspected and compression tested. 92 and 90 psi on all cylinders but one which was 85 psi. 3 of the carbs looked varnished up from some old gas I didn't get out before winterizing. Carbs were taken off,* cleaned and new kits installed. The guy only tested it on a garden hose...told me it ran strong and was ready to pick up. Never ran it at the lake which surprised me. 2 weeks later i took the boat out for a test run expecting the best but the engine never made it above 3500 rpms...worst I've seen...cutting out badly then dying hard...extremely hard to get started then was simply more of the same. (Note: I pulled the cowling off just to look and found 2 vacuum lines off and a broken plastic compression fitting on the fuel line where it attaches to the engine after the priming bulb. Put the lines back in place and fixed the fuel line/leak and the boat ran perfect). The next weekend another test run and it ran worse than before..Note: The shop did not replace any fuel lines. The shop stated it saw no fuel leaks but the primer bulb will bleed off pressure over a few hours still....The worst part is the guy will not take the boat back to try and fix...wouldnt come to the boat ramp 15 minutes away from his shop to help troubleshoot and won't give my money back and no 30 day warranty on parts or labor.
Any help from you fellas would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks!
