All,

This is for my offshore fishing boat but I figured x-dimension help would be better on this forum.

I have a 1979 Mako 25 that I have enclosed the transom and had a bracket with swim platform built. I have two Mercury 4 stroke 150's still in the crates waiting for the work to be done. My platform extended the transom by 3 feet so I was shooting for an x-dimension of 28 inches from the bottom of the hull. I test fit the bracket and it came out to 30 inches. I dont have a lot of wiggle room to lower the platform, maybe an inch. Do you feel that the 30 inch x-dimension is too much for an offshore fishing boat or could I live with the 30 inches and maybe add some fins to the outboards to keep them from cavitating while getting on plane. My other option may be to get manual jack plates and lower the engines as needed to tune it in. I just need some guidance from those that are familiar with dialing in their motors.

Thank You

Steven

I also wanted to mention that the motors always felt like they were too deep in the water at a 25" x-dimension hanging from the transom.

Give em a shot. I've found rigging new 150s in repowers they handle a little better height well.

Most of the twin rigs I set up there get set on 29 and a half with a good high diameter stainless prop they work great

Appreciate the information, makes me feel better about sticking with the x-dimension I have.
