Would this year engine have the feared plastic oil pump gear? Anything, in particular, to look for beyond the normal corrosion, compression, and performance observations?
They all have the feared plastic gear except the Optimax.

The block off kit cost less that $20 and take less than 10 minutes- if you are good with the rest I would not let that stop you-

its gonna be a 2.0 motor unless its EFI or XR6....
I have a 2.5 XR6 that has been pre mixed for years.....keeps on going and going but is thirsty.

It's a two liter and I have never once seeing a 2 liter that had a spun oil gear for whatever reason that was a25 problem

We broke one under warranty and blew motor up, broke another not under warranty and blew motor up, premix was gone after that. The last one was in 1990. Motor is still strong today. Lose that junk. It's too old and spinning them up is hard on them
