I thought this would be easy

Pulled off the new wheel and took the nut off the hub. It’s on a keyed shaft. It won’t budge. Should I use a gear puller on it? I have tried prying on it but don’t want to mess up the hydraulic helm.

Also, the new hub seems to be threaded for a different machine screw then what came off. Whets up with that? I thought it would be standard. The machine screw starts in but binds a few turns in. The machine screw has a counter sink head with an allen head.

Here is a pic of the new hub and the existing machine screw.

Any ideas on getting the old one off and/or threading the hub. I am temped to tap it with a proper size. It’s brand new from Eddie Marine.

The hub is keyed but is also a tapered fit so you need to use a wheel puller.I can't see the threads in the hub but that should be easy to fix with a trip to the hardware store.
Nothing is ever as easy as it looks:)

Steve,
I might be wrong but those screws look like a 1/4-20 and the hub looks like a finer thread than that. Could they be metric?

Thats what I am thinking since it's so close. Its odd to get a machined piece in the States with metric threads. I am going to take the hub to Home Depot tomorrow to try some various machine screws. I might be hard getting the right size in stainless with a counter sink head. Most stores have a limited variety. I figure if I nail down the right size I can buy them online.

I might try West Marine too, they have a store close by. I need to get a gear puller too. I have two, but they are in West Virginia.

Thanks guys.

Picked up a puller from NAPA today. The old machine screws were metric. The new hub is for 10x20. I had to get oval counter sink phillips heads.

Something to do tomorrow on the Hydrostream. That and finish work on the Checkmate.
