View Full Version : Mercury Tech poppit
It's been a while since dealing with this type poppit and I don't want to kill a good powerhead. I am swapping a 1984 2.0 onto a 1993 135 adapter plate. The 84 has the poppit without the tapped holes for the front half of the newer style poppits. I think I need to tie the thermostats together and off the port head go to the adapter plate with a tap for the telltale. Then plug top of block hole and call it a day. Does this sound correct? Thanks.

Rock, if the 84 is the soft edge diaphram with no hose, thats what I would do to start.

It's a little funky, with a 2 liter going on a 2.5 plate. You're gonna have to see how it works out.

Not sure if you have the parts yet, but you gotta be careful which poppet kit you get also. They say they supersede the old ones, but the new kits DO NOT work with the old covers. Just went through all this BS with my early 2.4 and ended up converting to the 2.5 style with cover that has the built in dump. This may be what you need to work with the 2.5 plate but I'm running on a solid 12" tuner/plate so I can't say for certain.
Probably smartest thing to do is switch to an old 2.4 plate.
