STV Euro Engine Height

Everything I have read on euro engine height is the sweet spot is generally 1.5" - 1.75". That being said, if water pressure is still good what can be gained by going a little higher? I assume less lower unit drag and perhaps a little speed gain. How will the higher height affect the porpoising and control? The boat is a 2010 with a 225 Sport XS and 1.62 Sportmaster lower unit & a 14.5 x 32P lightning ET.

Are you running any setback? Each boat is different due to rigging placement, propeller, hull weight and passenger weight so you really need to try it out. That being said, I have a hydraulic bracket on my RR with 9 inches of setback and its happiest at just under 3 inches above the pad. I run a remote pick up with a strainer so water pressure is not my issue. The prop that seems to work the best for me is a 4 blade dewald 14 7/8 with modified tips. Having a hydraulic plate or bracket makes finding the most efficient height for each propeller a breeze. As soon as the height becomes too much, the tach outruns the speedo and or the boat will start to crab walk.

Yes, I am running a Bob's 6" manual set back bracket.

Bump it up according to your water pressure and temp gauge. It will be faster on top and feel lighter. The downside is that its harder on the case due to temp (less water hitting the case for cooling) and prop surfacing higher beats up on the carrier and shaft.

Thanks for the information. Where its just a "family" boat and not raced, I will probably pass on the gains to avoid the possible carrier and shaft damage. I am satisfied at 96 MPH on GPS. Perhaps there are gains to be had with a little lab work on the propeller.

My Pro Comp also had 6" of setback. It ran best at 1-1/4" up. Any more didn't translate to more speed, but handling at the top end felt loose. Water pressure and temp was never an issue, even at 1.5" up +.
