Carb tuning questions

Can a carb be jetted correctly using a test wheel and leaving the boat on the trailer or even using a regular prop while on the trailer and trimming up until the engine reaches the RPM where you want to check jetting? I have trouble around here finding a place to run my boat for a long stretch at high speed/rpm. Most all the lakes are short and the river is curvy with some short straight stretches.

I thought about using a 22p chopper and riding the river so the RPM with be high with low speed or just backing the boat into the water using the 22p chopper as a test wheel and holding it at whatever RPM I want to jet for. Not sure about the best or most accurate way to do this and still be manageable doing by myself since I don't have anyone close around that understands what the hell I am trying to do or how things work.

Not sure about where you live but you better check the laws on what you are talking about doing with the prop on the ramp. It's perfectly fine here but a buddy of mine got a ticket a few years back using engine power to trailer his boat while on vacation out of state. Where ever he was claimed it damaged the concrete ramp and the fine was around 1500 bucks.

If you do it at the ramp dont trim the mota up. Instead back the trailer into the water far enough with the enging all the way down untill the cavatation plate is JUST touching the water. And have all the straps holding the boat on. And throttle up. The prop will suck in air and let the enging rev but still give it some load.

A lot of ramps won't allow power loading like that because they claim it washed the gravel/sand/rock/dirt etc. from the ramp's edge which can cause the end of the ramp to break off. Everyone I have seen since I was a single digit age power loads their boat with no problem or ill effects.

Wow a fine, those keystone crooks saw him coming. Unless you're under full load and rpm running on water the load will most likely be a lot different on the ramp. Too rich may go unnoticed till you hit open water. Maybe if you checked plugs after a tuning session.

On power loading. In the south where ramps are built long enough and with the right slope, power loading is not a problem. Here in the red star state (MN), many of the ramps are complete junk, and power loading will wash out the fill around them. Some are even linked concrete ties so power loading will wash the sand and gravel out from under the ramp. Angles, depths, etc are all over the board, and have no relation to reality most of the time.

I power load where I can, but there are some landings where I just have to crank it on the hard way.

almost nothing worse than a wake boat driving in circles creating 3' tall waffle pattern waves while your trying to drive across them. Only one laughing is the wake boat owner and his 95k payment plan.

If he's referring to a f1 testwheel they don't create prop wash like a conventional prop but put a load on the motor. I do agree you will loose the battle with a water cop pleading this point.

Power loading causes the prop wash to swirl and undermine concrete ramps causing some to collapse thus damaging the concrete. Hope this helps. Mike.
