Gambler Outlaw and 200xs?

I know the Gambler guys like the 3 liter opti motors on the bigger Gamblers. However, they weigh 508+ and I have a Gambler Outlaw, year 2000 model rated for a 200. Why wouldn't a 200xs work well on my boat? Its a single console and at least 200 lbs lighter than the 2000, 2100, or 2200 models. Think it weighs about 1,300lbs. I have a 200 opti 3 liter on it now and it looks huge! My thought is to save 80 lbs on motor weight, go to a two battery setup and lighten the equipment load and see if this 19' 4" Outlaw can perform and handle better with a 200xs. Now I just gotta find one with a 20 in mid section. Anyone else try this motor on an Outlaw or 19'3" intimidator? Thanks, Sam

my opinion,for what its worth(probabally0):i had a outlaw a while back,pretty sure in was a mid 90's?anyway,it had a 200 johnny(looper) on it and 3 50lb sand bags in the front compartment."well thats stupid,weight costs speed"i said to myself as i quickly liberated the sand bags from the boat.1 hr later it became VERY clear why they were there!the boat had an incredible hole-shot and climbed up on the pad nice,then,i crossed a 1ft boat wake @60mph and found myself looking down at the boat that made it!seemed the boat would jump air-born on any size wake at all but slow speed.i sold the boat 3 weeks later as i had only bought it for the motor.i probably would have kept it but the hull was in real rough shape.

Gambler re-designed the Outlaw in the late 90's, made it a much better boat with stronger transom, stronger stringers and slightly longer hull as they went to 19' 4" and upped the HP rating to 200 from 150. I had this boat to upper70's with 3.3 Liter Rude turning a 27 BASS Renegade. Just want an 80 mph setup keeping this hull.

I think that should be a very good combo, guy I tourney fish with has one with a 200xri on it that runs pretty good he's had it for a long long time.

i always wondered if the later ones handled a little better.A good friend of mine,has a 92' 20 footer and said it rode/handled completely (better)different.i have a 91' 20 footer i hope to complete soon,looking forward to getting seat time.A 3.3 with the right set-up/prop combo should get you in the 80's no problem:thumbsup:.general consensus is these hulls like stern lift,God knows,they dont need any at the bow!:cheers:

A 250xb or 300 pm are in the 445lb. Range not much heavier than a 2.5 opti.... just sayin' you dont need an opti to have awesome 3l power, most gamblers that i ever saw ran the 250xb

i have a 200xs on a voyager set up as a bass boat. its a very good choise for a liter boat ;ike the one you have. it was tested on a allison grand sport and saw over 90. plus it sips gas. i have seen 74 on my smartcraft guages using gps.

just keep looking the show up in the ob section. i found one last yr that was 2 digits newer then my main motor.

I have a 200XS 20 inch mid with about 95 hours on it. I'm running it on a Seebold Ski Eagle mod vp hull. It does 80 with 2 people. Hull and motor weighs a bit under 1600 pounds. I'm looking around for a good 225 promax to get a little extra power. I've only run it a few times since putting the combo together. Everyone says how it sips gas, I haven't really experienced that but I usually run it upper rpm. Maybe it sips at 4,000 rpm. I don't have a smartcraft gauge so not really sure what burn rate I'm getting, but I don't have any problem burning 15-20 gallons running around the lake a few times. Anyhow, I'd be willing to work out a trade for a nice 225 promax.
