So took the new tunnel out yesterday, and the motor won't rev past 4K rpm. Even trying to get on plane, if I floor it, it should POP out of the water. It almost feels like it's in limp mode. In neutral, it doesn't rev past 4K either.
If this was a bigger boat, the lack of power would t let it get on plane at all.
Searching through the internet, I know the breaking needs varying rpm, and occasional full throttle... but it just doesn't fee right.
Does the computer put out a limiter on it until a certain amount of hours ?

Congratulations on your first abusive over rev code ;)
Congratulations on your first abusive over rev code ;)
Had a similar issue with my motor.Turned out I needed a 1000 amp battery.

now you know why people get so much money for their decade + older 280's and 300x's.

The dealer just told a friend his new rude broke a reed due to being too close to the redline . Meanwhile we turn the same reeds 7500 and they had 1250 hrs on them . Turns out a rigging screwup took out a reed. They will do anything to get out of a warranty claim.
could be break in mode ? will respond with a few hrs?

maybe breakin mode... no idea. But had this been a bigger boat, NO way the tiny bit of power I'm at would make it plane. I barely got this to plane.

Sumptin don't sound right. What pitch prop again? BTW DON'T rev it to 4k in neutral... Check the throttle for full travel 1st...
That could be, did you go foot throttle and home made shifter?

No it does not. You have 100% of available power from the get go.
You have another issue. If no alarm it's not goin into limp mode. I'd guess prop size or not getting full throttle.
There is a lower Rev limiter for neutral, and I HAVE seen the switch go bad and the computer thinks it's in N still (fixed one today actually)
This motor comes with a display, will it not show a code? No packaging in the air box intake or something stupid like that?

That's so screwed up. I've seen Mercury warranty some of the dumbest not their fault things ever with no issue.
And one of the PDI requirements on a new engine is WOT RPM and making sure it falls in spec.

And that motor doesn't even start to start pulling hard till 4300 or so.

26 pitch prop. Vesse view 4, and shows no codes. I'll check the full throttle from the hot foot in the morning. It has a tps sensor too... not sure if it has a neutral sensor. I think just a neutral safety switch.... that I have plugged into itself (no switch currently). Hmmmmmm maybe that's why... after starting, ill unplug that switch and see if I have full power...
You'll find it. Maybe when you weren't looking your resident rodents setup house in the air box, lol. You leave a plug wire off?

Just a thought, that motor comes with a yellow cap where the flywheel bolts on. Have seen them come loose and wind up in the intake.

The Intake has a screen over it sealed by a rubber boot. Like it's meant to keep critters out. I'm positive nothing's in there.
Im leaning towards the two-wire lead for the neutral safety switch. I don't have one, so I just plugged them into each other so the motor would start. Guessing it thinks it's still in neutral when I floor it in gear?

Just curious but what is the rev limit on that 4 stroke motor suppose to be?

There is a fault somewhere.
Could be the shift switch, but would alarm would come on.
By the way, is this an Opti or a 4 stroke?
Otherwise you have either a faulty , coil, spark plug, injector, un linked throttle sensor, some thing like that.
Get it on a computer, quickest way to find the issue, especially with someone that knows what to look for.

It's a 4 stroke. I bet it's something simple, he will figure it out..
