im looking to get close to 80mph in my boat, and I have 4 motors in my mind buy trying to stay under 10k and hoping to do next season or maybe sooner

might just make 80 with a 400r  (and triple the budget...)

I've had two 24ft similar v bottoms. A Pantera and a carrera 7mm.. Both had 468ci / 450hp trs. 75mph on a good day , low fuel , two people and empty cooler. The trs and big block weight twice as much as a o/b. Rough water hull. I would go with the biggest o/b you can afford. .

My 24 with a 300xs hits 74 on a good day, other than that 70 all day any day

300xs is the motor for a 24....dont do twins its pointless and ruins the boat....

We have a 225 Verado on Fullers 24 with a whipple computer in it. Runs 70 with no set up.

I'm sure the forums tallest midget will contradict me here, but being totally serious, id but twin Yamaha 300 vmaxx.. they can be had for $5000 complete and get it massaged by the guys at Hydrotec.. they are good bang for buck.. guys say they are underpowered but hydro pushes them near 400 for not much money

Better start with how many gallons does the tank hold, and then what octane gas can you get when you are out on the water where you boat.

We have a 225 Verado on Fullers 24 with a whipple computer in it. Runs 70 with no set up.

That sounds intriguing. Any idea on the HP with the computer change and was that the only change ? What octane does it require ? Is fuel consumption still the same until you get to the top of the rpm band or does that go up across the board.

What up guys, I come to the conclusion I want a E TEC I've done a search and can't get a actual answer of what's the real difference between the two other than just computer? I'm looking for a new motor for my 24 foot Superboat, Anybody know the pros and cons of the two?

Looks like you have made your choice to go Etec

All we did was bolt on computer. They claim 340hp. Prop change (24p Bravo) boat went from 52mph to 70. Gonna raise motor some and yes have to run premium now. Gas mileage? Who cares, its a performance boat:D

Looks like you can get a 200 or 225 Verado and upgrade the computer and have a pretty significant powerboost

There are postings with a caution out there about the gear ratio difference between the 200-225 and the 350 which is what you basically end up with after the change

I also came across a few other posts on other boards that mention the fuel consumption doesn't change much at all (some reported better mileage due to larger pitch props) in the midrange.

Any upgrades all done in the computer, no pulley change if thats what you mean.

hard to believe with no extra boost?

From Whipple site. All done in the computer.

STAGE 2
The Whipple stage 1 maximizes the power output of the stock engine by running 91 octane or better, increasing the maximum spark advance, maximum boost and maximized air-fuel ratio. Calibration increases torque levels throughout the entire rpm curve while making more peak hp for increased speeds.
Key features:
• Hi-performance PCM calibration
• 6900 RPM limit vs stock 6650 RPM
• 115HP gain/95 TRQ
• Increased acceleration with increased torque output

X 2 what Vnemous said & I'm sure there's some boost management massaging going on since it's all electronically controlled, boost control, waste gate, Vnemous awesome results   I'll be sending them my 400R ECU.
