Captin , If there new with that little time send them to wiseco to be warrentied. Do those have the coated sides. Or , Are they the old ones that someone had left on the shelf.

The new design have a coated side.
Which ones do you have??????????

HOW'D CHA KNOW THE PINS WERE COMING OUT SO SOON. ?? PULLED A HEAD FOR A VISUAL OF THE WALL. WEISCO BORED AND REPLACE ALL 6 ON MY MERC FOR THE SAME THING ABOUT 8 YEARS BACK. YOU THINK THEY'D HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED BY NOW. I'M GOING TOGEATHER WITH ANOTHER. THIS TIME I ADDED MORE CLEARANCE. HOW CAN I TELL IF THE WEISCO'S I JUST GOT ARE COATED .....OR THEY R THE OLDER ONES ?

and thought I'd just pull a piston and check it out. Not one but all six the exact same way. Both pins sticking out about .005. This is bull****, all these years...................

If you dont know it allready... US1 can save the pistons for you, he can top pin them and weld the pin inside the piston. then you can wear out the piston befor the pin comes out...
He charges 300 usd ,100 is for taking the pins out by a emd prosess .

Yea I know. But this is ridiculous, 3-4 hours of just break in? I had it to 4500 for 10 seconds or so. I should have just put it back in and let it blow to pieces and called my lawyer. Let's make pistons that the pins fall out of. ****ing idiots.

Yea, stock Wisecos are the worst for pin failure. Different harmonics can shake them out real fast. You beat my record of 12 hour on a set of Wisecos before the pins feel out. I repin all my brand new pistons before running them, even Mercury’s stuff. It’s just not worth the risk. Sorry to here about the record breaking failure.

Can I send 'em out to you or are you kinda busy? Funny thing is have a couple 2.0's I beat the living hell out of for three years and those pistons still look perfect, all my inlines I've rebuilt and sold over the years have never had a problem either. Must have got the lucky set.

Yo Capn Insano,

I had the same thing happen to me on my looper.....twice. First time was about 10hrs. Wiseco paid for a new sleeve and sent me six new pistons....said they had fixed the problem. That set lasted about 3hrs. Motor locked up first time out when I was idling to the dock.

I was pissd to say the least. All this happened in about a two week period three years ago. They gave me a refund for all six.

I swore I'd never use them again. However I think they finally got their act together. The machine shop I use said about every chrome bore Merc and every looper would spit the pins on the old style Wisecos.

About a year ago Wiseco made another change and my buddy at the machine shop said he has several chrome bore Mercs and several loopers thats been running with them with no problems. I just put six of the new ones in a looper about two months ago and all is fine so far.

On the loopers they relocated the pins away from the finger ports. Not sure what they changed on the Merc pistons, may have been the same.

I'd bet their customer service would do you right if you called.

Good luck,

Skeet

Does Wiseco make pistons for Sierra? I just replaced two last year in my 4 ltr and now you got me thinking, is this thing gonna hold together? THey were shipped from SIerra, so I would hope they are new stock. Haven't even broken them in yet.

Thanks, TOny!

I dont think Wiseco does make pistons for Sierra. Wisecos are forged and Sierras are cast and only good for 7000 RPM.

Can any of you guys that are having problems with wiseco's tell me if you or your engine builders are filing the rings to achive a certain ring gap?

If you do , that will cause the pins to become lose.
If you file the ends of the rings it makes the cut out which
straddles the pin to close ; which then as the piston moves up and down the ends of the ring is too tight on the dowel which
works the pins lose.

Just a thought!

If you ring gap is not correct make your supplier exchange them
for anouther set!!!!!

I got my pistons at John's right now. 70 hours though on a set of T-6 Mercs. That still sucks wheb the piston fails before the rings are worn out. Shouldn't that happen in the other order? Like on the forth or fifth set of rings you need to replace the pistons ?????????? Just a thought !!!!!!!!! Lie you say, Sunsabitches!!!!!

BYW, you ain't gett'in nothin done by John till mine are done ........ LOL, John did you get them yet? I didn't check the tracking # yet. You If you don't have em they should get there tomorrow fore sure. They left here Monday.

out. This stuff is statring to get to me. All my motors that should run don't. And the one that should'nt run for long is. i might just hang the drag on it and call it good for the summer. I pulled down that powerhead I ran on thr river at Jasper. Had a hole behing the starter the size of a quarter in the front half, spit part of the upper main out the side, ran pretty good! I about ****. I thought it sounded funny at the beer stop. Was wondering why I only had 75 lbs on a couple. Nothing wrong with the bores. WOW! I laugh now when I look at Raptors video when were all stopped and I'm kinda scratchin' my head lookin at the motor.:p

Brent. Rings filed or not the ring will touch the pin, that is why it is there to keep them from rotating. Radius all the edges of the ring located next to the pin will help. I have not lost a pin in a long time and always file and sand the edge to achieve the ring clearence I desire.. The radius on the edge gets rid of the grap effect the ring has on the pin. Filing the tip of the ring does not change the clearance on the pin as the ring is still in the same bore, it would allow a pinch on the pin if the ring were to be squezzed together but then it would not contact the wall.
