WH (and the rest for the sake of this post) series Carburetors are an old news topic, but on the threads I have read it seems that not one person has the best set up! I read "this for speed" or "that for hole shots" or "too big for competition" or "to small for performance".

Two things I know, 1 Speed kills so don't do drugs and 2 Drugs can slow you down to even a permanent stop. (like never moving again or dead on the water) not good.
But here in they can save your life too :) so that is how much I know...

so let's forget what octane your using unless its av gas then this is not for you unless you like to go slow.

And here we go WOT!

what is the purpose of the JET for the main vent bowl? and should it be small or large or completely removed.

what is the correlation of the Jet main fuel and the Jet main Idle air bleed? I know these jest have a major function but lets say one is way small and one is way big. OR just the opposite? and how about all of them having as close to the same size like a 6 pack of beer? you know each one is 12 oz but the more you drink the slower you go ')

If your carburetor has an Idle set screw well that's just one more thing to go wrong but I see how it can help when your in the water tuning at idle.

The main vent bowl jet, normally referred to as a backdraft jet. Is used to lower pressure in bowl lower than atmospheric pressure during cruising/ part throttle, which in return leans fuel mixture while cruising to improve fuel mileage/emissions. The smaller the jet, the leaner and the larger the richer. For performance applications I totally remove them which allows atmospheric pressure to stay in bowl which basically eliminates the backdraft circuit. The main jets are fuel jets, set these according to wot fuel needs of engine the larger the richer. The idle jets are air jets so the bigger the leaner. The mains will effect full spectrum from idle to wot. So get these right first and then do the idle jets last. Normally the leaner you can get the idles without getting a lean sneeze the more responsive they will be when you crack the throttle.

FORBESAUTO, You nailed my motor operation on the head.
After further breakdown and inspections of my Carbs. WH 23-1 (no idle needle valve)
the main fuel was at the bottom of the size charts I found on here and in the Merc Specs. (150 thru 225)
the Idle bleed air I guess are from some thing else but they fall at the top of the spec chart (150 thru 225) .056 .052 I have .054
the vent bowl are removed. I read that some where here that was removed for performance.
And the Sneezing is exactly what I have and no idle unless I put it over 1000rmp in the water.

So.... I got some skillz that some timez killz....

I drilled the fuel mains and left the idle air @ .054 and putting in the vent bowl with the 200 early model set up (they use 2 small .08? and .09? in the bowl vent)
I drilled the fuel inlets they where the same size as the mail fuel jets. 5/16th
Ill be back I hope today if the speed don't kill me! to follow up. IF all goes well I'll buy you a beverage. if not then I will go one more layer down to the reeds... but they where good on the build up almost a year ago. Tuning takes more time than fishing.

If your boat will allow you to shut off the key on a wot pass you can pull the spark plugs and inspect them. You want a paper bag brown color (I like to run a tad richer with a slight blackish soot look in places). If it's white go richer and don't run wot anymore. Especially check cylinders 2 and 5 as these usually need a little more fuel.

It will. They are chocolate brown last run was brand new stock 225 ngk's.

Gaskets look to be installed upside down. Is that the way you were running it? If so that could be your problem. Chocolate brown is ok for mains, prob a little rich but that's ok.

Yes that was the set up when I got the motor. New gaskets correctly installed. I just finished sync and Link...about to earmuff it.

Happy Father's day to you and all on SAF
