broken rod!

How the heck do you break a rod on a Mercury 2.5? My "Buddy" did something to my boat while I was getting the truck/trailer. He stated that the throttle stuck while he was running the boat and had to pull the kill switch.

The rod broke at the large end above the bolt area... The block is cracked in a few places....

I will post pictures when I get back in town....


Can the block be welded? Are any of my other rods suspect?
