Hello

I have a 1992 150 V6 Carburated and when starting up first time of the day it'll keep loading up to a point it'll stall.

I have to get it it gear and start going to clear it up, once that's done it works fine all day.

Theirs a valve on the starboard head with a tube to the carbs I unhooked it and seemed to clear it up. Might that be a thermal control valve? If so can I leave it off or replace it.

Actually the motor has done this since it was new I swear. Maybe a new one is needed? I never bothered in the past because it ran great and didn't want to rock the boat and make changes over factory settings. But really shoudn't run this way.
Thanks.

Hi Capt,

The valve you are discussing is indeed a thermal valve, it opens with heat. The valve's function is to cut down on air flow to the idle air jets during cold engine operation to aid in warm-up. You can disconnect it with no adverse affect except for some cold natured starting, (just bump the choke switch til it warms up enough to run smooth). With the symptoms you described it sounds as if yours is still working IE:"Runs fine all day", "Actually it has done this since new". So replacement probably wouldn't help. You may also want to check the idle air screws on your carbs to make sure they are adjusted properly. Your 92 model has adjustable idle air screws.

Thanks for the reply

I'll try running it disconneted for now, I'm sure that'll do the trick, and I can handle working the fuel enricher choke til it warms up.

I bet that does the trick. I won't try the carbs for now, since that might create worse problems for me not having a lot of expierence in that area.

Thanks again....

p.s. Would you know if there is an easy way to check to see if the two top mounts are o.k. with out taken the cowling off ? The mounts I'm talking about are the ones that are attached to the steering arm.
